When do Spurs Reboot?

Wondering when Spurs reboot versus more patching. With Parker and Ginobelli reaching the end you can only add expensive free agents so long and late round picks have a ceiling.

Given Buford's ability to judge talent when does San Antonio set themselves up for the next 15-20 year run?

Here is a possible 3 team trade that would be a start:

Boston gets: KL, Saric
Boston gives: Number 1, Brooklyn 1, Memphis 1 (Protected 1-8), Crowder, Yabusele, Clippers 1 (complex protected)

Philadelphia gets: Fultz, Aldridge
Philadelphia gives: Number 3, Lakers 1, Saric

San Antonio gives: Leonard, Aldridge
San Antonio gets: Number 3, Lakers 1, Brooklyn 1, Memphis 1, Clippers 1, Crowder, Yabusele

Boston gets players to compete with Cleveland

Philly gets shooters to pair with their young core and a leader in Aldridge

San Antonio gets major cap relief and a stock of draft picks for their genius GM.

Boston's good with no trade but San Antonio can do what Boston did and gain a ton of picks and cap space to get back in a few years.

San Antonio is 1 or 2 good moves away from being a championship contender next year. Why would they blow it up for a bunch of picks?

Free strategic hint. If you have an MVP candidate player signed for the next several years (Leonard), and you won 61 games last year, you're not planning a reboot...

Spurs are already rebooting.
It just doesn't look like because they're doing it gradually

Murray,Kawhi,Bertans, (Hanga) + this year's picks are the future (also an eventual trade to have a higher pick 15-25 is feasible)
No need to tank when you have a 26 years old MVP candidate who will be better than any Fultz, Waltz and Schultz

AND SIMMONS WILL RESIGN

Teams tank to get a player like Kawhi Leonard. He's only 26. He has expressed zero interest in leaving. Why would you ever trade him?

The Spurs genuinely believed that they could beat the Warriors in the conference finals this year. Probably isn't true, but that's where they were. Their cap sheet is setup to be wide open in 2018 off-season, there is no rebooting going on here.

Sometime after Popovich retires, that's after Kawhi declines. But if by some miracle Duncan ends up as coach and Buford is still around, the Spurs will never reboot

I totally agree!

Spurs don't reboot, they retool. I don't think they have ever rebooted, at least not since Pop and Buford have been in charge. Don't really remember a total reboot even before Pop.

They beat the Warriors by 30 in the regular season and were winning by ~20 in Game 1 before kawhi went down.

They've got a perennial MVP candidate, solid veterans, depth, and some young pieces.

If anything this would be a great year for them to have tried to make some sort of all in move.

I think the organization believes if certain things go right we can contend this year. And if they don't we are in a good position for an all-in move for 2018/19

The Spurs need to find the next Parker/Manu at this point. Leonard's at the point in his career where he's going to need support, and guys on the free agent market likely won't get it done. Gotta hope Murray and put something together, as he's the only youngish player who has a ceiling higher than a super role-player.

Did the Spurs wait too long to reboot?

Wait for what? Their best player to become a weirdo?

kawhi hasnt said anything about leaving or asking a trade, seems like he has a conflict of interest with his uncle or whoever is representing him and the spurs...i dunno why he wants a bigger shoe contract, if jordan brand wont give it to him, he should go find a someone else willing to give him that shoe deal to make up for that loss of endorsement income...doesnt help that he doesnt talk to market himself if he wants to chase the endorsement money

what happens is when he signs a supermax or max, then acts like a child again sitting out or demanding a trade?
