Dedmon Will Decline Player Option

Post#1 » by Nolan » Tue May 30, 2017 5:05 pm

https://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources-spurs-dewayne-dedmon-opts-free-agency-163844482.html

San Antonio Spurs center Dewayne Dedmon will decline his $3 million player option for next season and become an unrestricted free agent, league sources told The Vertical.

Dedmon, one of the top available centers this summer, averaged 17.5 minutes, 5.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 76 games this season. Dedmon also started 37 regular-season games and three playoff games.

The 7-foot Dedmon will command a market as an active rim protector and reliable starter. He signed a two-year, $6 million deal with the Spurs last offseason.

Not surprising at all, we all knew this was coming.

What's his next deal look like? and what are chances that he resigns?

Detroit.. Yep.. is gonna offer him like $13m

Oh well, that's an extra $3.3m San Antonio gets to work with lol

I doubt he comes back, I wonder why pop just flat out refused to play him in the playoffs..

 That would be amazing.

I think the big reason he didn't get any burn in the playoffs is because of his lack of an offensive game. Plus I don't think Pops was a big fan of that little scuffle Dedmon got into in the Memphis series.

I'd like to see him back but the price has to be under 10 mil a season.

Not unexpected. I suspect he will get MLE+ level money... Can see the replacement being Milutinov.

From what I have read Milutinov would have a ~$1.5 Million salary that can be paid out of the first round pick exemption (which means we could sign him after going over cap, while holding his place with an empty slot placeholder, which, IIRC, is somewhere around $800k ). He has a $1,000,000 nba buyout in his contract, and we could pay up to $675,000 of that without cap implications. he would be taking a $325000 hit on his first year of salary, but that is probably still a better financial deal than his euro team...

This is exactly what I see happening. It's not the most exciting move but it makes a lot sense.

Yes, Dedmon is limited offensivelly, but i would rather have him than this Pau Gasol. But if Spurs bring Milutinov, i'm ok losing him, as long as we can bring some "star" to get better.

From what I see from Milutinov,he is slow & unathletic,he is unable to switch against Pick,he is not a gd rim protecter,he will get beat off the dribble like Pau did ...........plus he got no range on offence, they only advantage is he is very gd at set pick

You couldn't be more wrong . He's a very good athlete for his size , he's long , mobile, he can defend off the pick'n"roll action (at least he can do it in Europe, we will see how it goes in NBA, but he possess the tools), he's not slow by any means, he moves very well for 7 footer, he dunks easily , doesn't need the space to elevate , he got hops, he finishes alley op's easily ,he's a very good passer, great offensive rebounder, he also can post up when he gets the ball once in while :) the reason why he's not shooting mid range jumpers often at his club , it's because of the system he's playing in , Olympiacos want their centers to play strictly inside the paint, to crash the boards etc. But he has ability to knock down mid range jumper , he always had, he was known for it in his junior days, he was even able to hit three's ,when he played for Partizan he had much more freedom in his game , so he was shooting those with regularity , the good thing he often works with one of the shooting trainers from SA . Milutinov just have played out third play off final game today ,against panathinaikos , an arch rival of Olimpiacos club, he was the best player in todays game as well in the first one that Olimpacos have won . There are lots of thing like about Milutinov , I think he will adjust very well to the NBA game style , he is going to be a very good role player for San Antonio.
