San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard won't take part in his team's preseason campaign as he rehabilitates a quadriceps injury, the Spurs announced Saturday (h/t NBA writer Paul Garcia).

Leonard has only gotten better as his career progresses. The 26-year-old has developed into one of the top two-way players in the NBA, finishing third in the MVP Award race last season behind only Russell Westbrook and James Harden. He averaged a career-high 25.5 points per game while also maintaining the elite level of defense that earned him two Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Though the injury doesn't appear to be serious, San Antonio will hope its star is ready to go come the regular season.

Sounds like it's only precautionary but still not the best news. We need him healthy.

remember last season when clowns called out kawhi not mvp cause the spurs won 7-1 the games he missed?

i wonder if they going to use the same excuse if he continues to miss games early in the season and it looks like a easy schedule for the spurs to feast on atm till he returns

Interesting that we pickup where we left off last regular season. The team plays really crap offense and really good defense w/o Kawhi, at least if you go by per possession numbers... which is more fodder for the the Kawhi makes the defense worse crowd.

Guys, Lakers fan coming in peace! Is there a point of the season, for Kawhi return, where you think that would be better shut him down and tank the rest of the season, trying to emulate 96-97? I would love to see the Spurs geting a young stud(Doncic) to pair with Kawhi.

Hmm... not sure what to make of this news.

I looked up quad tendinopathy, and all info states timelines in terms of weeks to months. Of course, pro athletes have elite physio, and we don't know how severe Kawhi's injury is, so I'm hoping that with a month's or so rest now, he's closer to coming back. Spurs look ok to solid so far, if not as consistent, but hopefully the team will be that much more locked in upon Kawhi's return.
