Question for the board: Is Pop pulling a stealth tank?
Both Patty Mills and Bryn Forbes are unable to play D (and both should be moved this summer). Further, their shooting has been at best inconsistent. Yet he hasn't nailed them to the bench where they should be. Not to mention he keeps playing micro-ball lineups that suck! What's Pop playing at?
What our guard "order" should look like:
PG: (1) Dejounte (needs to learn) (2) Parker (best current PG) (3) White (also needs to learn - and he's better currently than Bryn or Patty) (4) Patty (5) Bryn
SG: (1) Green (2) Manu (3) White (Seriously, he's less undersized than the rest of them!) (4) Patty (5) Bryn

Pop doesn't do "tank" and he sure as hell doesn't do "stealth".

Re: Tanking
Tanking is trying to have the worst possible season in the interest of draft positioning; even if the Spurs lost every game for the rest of the season, they'd finish 35-47, which would likely net them the9th or 10th pick.
Pop's not tanking; he's just working with a team that's lost 166 (so far) man-games to injury and fielded 19 different starting lineups. Despite all that and the fact that they're reeling right now, they still have the sixth-best record in the league.

Re: Tanking
LOL! You dont tank 2/3 the way into a season.
Pop is teaching. He is the absolute best at this. He is a great teacher and leader. I agree some of his in-game decisions are questionable but he's always been that way. The crazy lineups are about that.
Because of the injuries I believe this season has become more about next season than winning everything now. We have already proven that we can win games with our role players we just aren't going to contend for any championships. They are learning valuable lessons right now which will better us in the long run.
I think our barometer for this year will be March 12th after the all-star break. We have 4-5 winnable games until then. Then we play 3 straight away games:
March 8th at Golden State
March 10th at OKC
March 12th at Houston
If we can get healthy and Gay and Leonard are playing ok, and we can at least make those 3 games competitive(we dont have to win them) then I think we might make a run. Otherwise its probably all about next year and just letting everyone learn as much as they can this year.
You also have to remember that Pop was going to retire when Tim Duncan retired. But he stuck around because he wanted to coach Leonard and try to win another championship. I think he would retire before he would tank a season.

No. We're 3rd in the west, we have good players. Patty and Bryn have their faults but they're solid players and two of the best floor spacers we have.

Re: Tanking
Review at the coaching in the last several 4th quarters and try to convince yourself we are not tanking.
Consider last night - a game that was winnable against the warriors, we had a 8 pt lead with less than 5 minutes left.
- Not going with the steady hand of Parker down the stretch or making many play calls, instead watching a weak defense, shot dependent (needs to hit jumpshots for any value), jittery offence perimeter trio fritter the game away
- Inexplicably having Mills defend Thompson vs being hidden on Cook
- Inexplicably playing Mills the most of any guard again, when he's borderline unplayable vs this team (must be shooting well > 40% on 3's)
- Not having Bertans, a tall, quick release shooter in on the last play, instead of Anderson when are only hope was a 3.
- Not having Green, his only healthy 3 and D wing, in until the damage had been done or playing him enough in general
- Not doubling Durant in the 4th when it was clear!he was going to singlehandedly take the game and they had 2 no brainer candidates to help off of, in Livingston and Green. Especially easy w/o Curry.
- No varying in the defence on Durant in the 4th, even after they started doing heavy screens on Anderson
- Gay was literally the ONLY player that can and was creating his own shot. And is no where seen in crunch time. One of the last possessions when everyone passed up an open look and looked scared to shoot it, Rudy Gay is shooting that shot.
- A lineup with Mills, Murray and KA on the wing in crunch time against this Warriors D did exactly expected. Tony, Rudy or even Manu (despite the terrible game he had been dropping, he's still Manu, and the best step up to the moment guy on the team) would have been options rather than Patty Mills.
To my mind, the question is, what is the objective - a lottery pick, or do they figure they can take anyone but the Rockets/Warriors With or without home court (and they can't catch either of them), so they may as well get a better pick...
