MERGED: Kawhi Leonard Trade Ideas Thread

Post#1 » by imagump1313 » Thu May 17, 2018 12:12 am

If you really insist on wanting Kawhi, give us Tatum and Brown with a leveling salary like Morris and we will take it.

I would have laughed at this earlier in the year (actually i think I did) but if that was offered now I would gladly jump on it.

Bill Simmons said he wouldn't do Tatum + salary fillers straight up for Kawhi, basically saying Tatum is untouchable, but that's his opinion. He went as far as saying there is only 2 players he would trade Tatum for...Davis and Greak Freak.

My condolences to you....I don't think I've ever seen the value of what was thought to be a blue chip player drop like Kawhi's has...

Sadly, the only way for the Spurs to get anything out of their investment is to ride his current contract out and hope for the best...The more his situation is talked about, the worse his return value gets....and it's perceived to be all his doing primarily....I mean who want's a guy who seemingly just gives up or is so self centered that he either can't or won't respond to being all but called out by his teammates during the post season?..... It's just a very sad situation indeed....

The only hope you have is to trade him for other forms of damaged goods... Perhaps a deal with the Pelican's on a sign and trade for Boggie Cousins or something very risky like that....It's just that bad...

Ainge would never touch him unless it was for a bargain basement price...And it's my belief he wouldn't risk the current culture of the team by even doing that....

Geeze... just realized that this thread was posted yesterday?......Talk about a lack of interest on a board over the summer months?

Given what happened this year to what has been a top notch franchise, I guess morale here would have to be at an all time low?....Guess it's even worse than that?....woosh!

This board is usually pretty quiet after we get bounced from the playoffs. Its one of the quieter boards here also because there usually isn't much to complain about.
Part of my reason to post this thread was because of how fast things change. Like I said, 4 months ago I would have laughed in the face of someone offering that for Kawhi and now I would take it and run. Not only because of how aloof Leonard has been but because of how much balls Tatum and Brown are showing in these playoffs. That are doing what Leonard did for us and more.

Leonard is probably staying put if I had to guess. We were lower on Aldridge at this point last year and you see how that turned out.

I know, it sucks. Brown and Tatum are going to have much more effect on this league in the years to come than Kawhi will.

I'm of the opinion that if Leonard really wants out that we force him to finish his contract next year and then let him walk and we can rebuild with the hole he will make in our cap.

Which deal would you accept?

Post#7 » by Mich3006 » Fri Jun 8, 2018 8:37 am

In one of the mock-offseasons on the t&t board I´m responsible for the Spurs. I´ve received a lot of good offers for Kawhi and would like to know what you Spurs fans would accept/do, because I try to stay as realistic as possible.

Deal 1 (via Heat): Kawhi for Richardson, Winslow, Adebayo, MIA 2019 1st (unprotected)
Deal 2 (via Bucks): Kawhi, Mills for Brogdon, Middleton, Snell, Maker, 2019 MIL 1st (unprotected)
Deal 3 (via Wizards): Kawhi, Mills for Beal, Oubre, 2019 WAS 1st (unprotected)
Deal 4 (via Lakers): Kawhi for Ingram, #25 (Troy Brown), 2019 LAL 1st

Keep in mind, which trade Kawhi would accept because of his trade blocker as well. Thanks for your information!

I wouldn't accept any of those deals at this time. We are talking about a top 5 player in the league regardless of what happened this year.
The Spurs need a move that will make them compete for a championship next year to trade Kawhi right now. All of those players mentioned aren't going to do that. We are not rebuilding. We don't have time for that with Aldridge here.
I tend to lean toward the deals that include getting Mills and his horrible contract out of here but I don't hate him that much to trade him and Kawhi for other team's garbage.
Maybe if we get into Jan-Feb. next season and this drama is still going on. Then those deals might be all we can get but right now somebody has to come with a top player, a top 10-15 player in the league, a blockbuster, not a bunch of cast-offs nobody wants.

I voted to just keep Kawhi if that is whats being offered right now.

Well the pro’s of that model is you keep the Lakers out because they won’t have cap space if they sign Lebron and PG.

The cons would be you get nothing for a great player.

If the Sixers make a legit offer for Kawhi that could force Ainge’s hand and give leverage back to Spurs. Every other trade scenario like staying with Spurs, trades to LAL or LAC or SAC will not threaten the chance that Celtics go to finals many times over next 5 years.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

That Laker deal for sure won't fly. I don't think the Spurs are happy at all with the way things have played out, and I seriously doubt they send him to his preferred destination without demanding the kitchen sink.

In this kind of situation, I believe most teams would take a slightly lesser offer rather than giving into being strong-armed.

Also, if Kawhi returns next year 100% healthy with no issues, it's going to be a really bad look. Already kind of smells like he may have been trying to force his way out last season.
New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

Do you think Charlotte has any chance?

MKG, Monk, Kaminsky, 11th pick

Kawhi may consider it if Jordan promises to help him finally get a big shoe deal which would be with Jordan brand of course. You guys keep him from the Western Conference.

I laughed when I heard SA was gonna trade him to the Lakers. Pop wont even trade him to a western conference team, even if he is offered more. He's not building a super team in the west.

If SA cant get him to stay and he's gone 100%, I think he is definitely going to Boston.

Since Kawhi only has a year remaning, BOS won't give up too much. But they are the favourites to get out of the East next year and adding a guy like Kawhi, would give them a good shot at beating the Warriors.

Jaylen Brown and Sacramento pick and a player to make salaries work.

Would you guys do this deal?

I can see BOS pulling the trigger on this deal since they are the favourites to make the finals next year already and to add a guy like Kawhi might make a series against GS interesting.

BOS gets:
Kawhi

Spurs get:
Rozier
Morris
Monroe
Jalen Brown
Sacremento pick

This might work for both teams.

OP, with all due respect, I'm not even a Spurs fan and those deals look ludicrous. In every one of them the Spurs get royally screwed. I know Kawhi has only 1 year left on his contract, but come on... Any discussion with the Lakers would have to begin with both Kuzma/Ingram included.

You are getting close with this one but the Spurs have no need for Rozier with Murray here. Don't get me wrong, I like Rozier. He is a much better option than Patty Mills but I dont see Rozier being happy as a bench player anywhere and I'm sure he will be wanting starter money when his contract is redone. And isn't Monroe an UFA? I dont think he can be traded unless you sign him first.

You may have to get a 3rd team involved and send Rozier and whatever there to get us something more worthwile

I know I don't speak for the Spurs organization but I'm really not interested in Fultz at all and thats what Philly is going to offer. Now if Lebron decides he wants to goto Philly and they talk Simmons because the 2 dont fit together, we might have something.
