I'm ambivalent. He wants to keep playing big minutes, which means he needs to be somewhere he can, and we need to develop Murray and move in a new direction, so this is win/win for him and for the team; in that, I'm happy.

He's just been part of the team for so long that I'm a little emotional about seeing him go and about him playing somewhere else. An all-time top-five Spur (tied for fourth with Gino, in my opinion) who will be missed and whose monumental contributions to this team over the last 17 years can't easily be overstated.

Let's hear y'all's thoughts.

Very shock to see TP playing for another team that's not silver, black, and white. The guy and I are near the same age. I've followed his game for years. He has been remarkable at playing one of the hardest positions to play in the NBA. At first, all he did was drop floaters left and right and distribute the ball wherever the options were available. Under Pop's tutelage, TP would grow up to become one the top five respected PGs during the prime of his career. He was a part of the team that won four championships(should've been five, but I disgress). Now at this stage of his career, it seems surreal that a mainstay of the Spurs is moving forward to the next chapter with the Charlotte Hornets. Wish you the best TP9. It's been real.

Like you guys have already said, I'm kind of torn in both directions. I'm sad to see him go to another team but in all honesty we were not winning any more games if he stayed here. I wouldn't have minded if he stayed but with a deal similar to Manu's, not 10 million for 2. Plus we need to get on with Murray's career and see what we got. Tony would have slowed that process down.
I'm sure playing with Batum was a big factor. I'm glad he got paid one last time. We all knew these days were coming so we've been a little spoiled.

He was, honestly, FANTASTIC in the 2017 playoffs till he hurt his quad. He was on a roll, and was key to that 2017 run.

Surprised to see him go. I thought he'd be back; but things overall aren't right for him it seems, moreso basketball than anything. People can and will speculate that he has "issues", but it's all noise to me.

I really don't mind him leaving, overall, though... because other, more impactful, younger players can get minutes now. His services and level of play, consistency would be better off on another team. Namely Derrick White who is looking very nice in SL.

He could have a resurgent year off the bench in Charlotte.. he has it in him.. but the odds are against that at this point in his career. I hope he does, and wish him the best there. I think he'll have a better year than last year in the least, but I doubt anything like Spring 2017 play.

Uuuugh... ****. I'm sad and shocked and frankly a bit pissed at Tony right now. I just thought that seeing as how we weren't able to get better value for his contract last season, and given the season we and he had, that there would be some more give on his part about the contract. He seemed fine with taking on a mentor role, and that is really the biggest hit for us, aside from the fact that he's been here for so long and has contributed so much to the Spurs. It's not like 28-year old Walker needs mentoring, but I guess a bigger playing role and helping Borrega instill a culture for $5M a year X2 was the lure that was strong enough.

I just think Pop deserves better after the year he's had, and the Spurs, too. I guess I sort of expected more from Tony given that first context. People will counter with logical points, and I concede to them; this is an emotional reaction. At least he was man enough to make a call himself and speak to Pop and RC. Just disappointed at his choice.

I felt a bit better when I remembered we still have Patty as a PG mentor, and am glad that Danny chose to return (Rudy, too, but he hasn't been part of the program as long, so he's on the learning path as he contributes).
