I remember he was a pretty good floor spacing big who could shoot. We needed someone to take up Pau's minutes even if it inst much.
He is only 28! I thought he was mid-30s lol
Interesting pickup for the remainder of the season.

Good find! I hope Donatas shows well. Good insurance big we can develop and only 28 still! We've got fellow Lithuanian Darius Songaila as Player Development Assistant on board so I'm looking forward to seeing how he progresses in our system. Thanks to both of you for the highlights.

D-Mo for 3 mooore - that's a scream Rockets' announcers used to use when he was on board there :) An he was also called 'Captain Hook' because of baby hooks he made at ~65% iirc

But seriously, he can really make some 3's when having some time to settle. He's not catch-and-shoot guy but Spurs will definitely have some spacing for DD penetrations. And if Derozan will kick it out some 1/3 occasions, you'll see some nice jumpshots

My guess is it took him a while to get his work visa in order.

^ Yep:

Visa issues are keeping Donatas Motiejunas from joining the Spurs
The Spurs are trying to push the process along
It turns out his delayed arrival is due to Visa issues, per Lithuanian sports journalist Donatas Urbonas.

As Urbonas says, the Spurs are trying to get the process to move along faster. Each passing game is wasted time in getting Motiejunas incorporated with his new team should he be needed to play a role this season or in the playoffs.

Top quote is from this interview. Perhaps those who understand Lithuanian can provide the main points.

It's official!:

SPURS SIGN DONATAS MOTIEJUNAS
The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed forward Donatas Motiejunas (doh-NAH-tahs moe-tee-YOU-nus). Per team policy, terms of the contract were not announced.

Motiejunas, 7-0/220, has spent the past two seasons with the Shandong Golden Stars of the Chinese Basketball Association, averaging 27.3 points, 14.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists during the 2018-19 campaign.

The Kaunas, Lithuania native previously spent five seasons in the NBA with the Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans, holding career averages of 7.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists. In 2014-15 for Houston, Motiejunas averaged 12.0 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 36.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Motiejunas was originally selected in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft (20th overall) by the Minnesota Timberwolves before being dealt to Houston on draft night. Prior to the NBA, he made international stops in Poland, Italy and Lithuania. Motiejunas has been a member of the Lithuanian Senior National Team since 2013.

The Spurs roster now stands at 17 players.

Brief though it was, I'm happy Donatas was with us. He filled the roster spot better, this after we saved $2M from the buyout, fit in well, and was serviceable in very limited minutes. I wish him well.
