OT: SPURS' RESPONSES TO GEORGE FLOYD KILLING, PROTESTS & RACIAL INEQUALITY

So the Spurs were left as one of two teams that did not release an official team statement about police brutality towards George Flyn. It was too quiet and some - myself included - thought this would be the path the organization would take. Turns out, behind the scenes they were putting together an entirely different approach.
As a result of the magnitude of the unfolding events following George Floyd's killing and of the Spurs' genuine and deep response, I thought these deserved its own thread.
The politics are intrinsic to this issue, but I trust we can keep to our better, thoughtful natures.
-------
I've had to move some posts around and reorder them in this thread. In order of occurrence, this is the first response we had in terms of actively engaging with the SA community.
Lonnie was supporting the San Antonio community to help clean up after protests about police brutality following the killing of George Floyd:

Pop has been named by the NBA Coaches Association to a committee on racial injustice and reform:

Also, not to make this a political issue, but the overlaps with the NBA are obvious. Since the Spurs official sites stayed in a very narrow lane about it - not retweeting anything related to Pop or the Spurs players getting involved in activism and only following the NBA guidelines about Blackout Tuesday in support of Black Lives Matter [EDIT: this was written before the Spurs released their series of videos] - it was refreshing that Pop unleashed an absolute torrent of one true word after another. Things were noticeably quiet for a while, so you could tell it was brewing, and while I expected nothing less, honestly, even I was surprised at its fierceness. Couldn't be prouder of Pop and the players.

The Spurs organization took the deep dive approach to George Floyd's killing and its ripple effects by putting together this series. The silence was off putting, but I was wrong in assuming that nothing would be said. Worth the wait. Powerful. A solid and different response. Proud to be a Spurs fan:

Why yes, yes he was. The entire podcast is a good listen. Bill Simmons has a probing and informative conversation with civil rights activist DeRay McKesson before airing Steve Kerr's and Pete Carroll's conversation with Pop (the Apple link worked for me):
Alternately, Kerr's and Carroll's Flying Coach podcast featuring Pop (and previous guests) can be found here:

I'm biased, but what a GOAT on and off the court. Solid human being, comes from the heart, resonates true and deep:
These Spurs Voices videos are all really moving. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at how they came about. I love our team:
