GAME DAY, BALA! GAME 36: SPURS AT PISTONS, 15-3-2021, 7PM (CT)

Post#1 » by G R E Y » Mon Mar 15, 2021 6:39 pm

Well let's try this again but way better, shall we? This SEGABABA is an opportunity to show up with some pride and focus. We have to take ownership of our D awareness and hustle and O movement and execution, plain and simple. No excuses.

WHERE: Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, MI

WHEN: Tuesday, March 15, 2021, 7pm (CT)

Earn The Stripes Mode: All of these - defensive responsibility, intense drive, and offensive aim - for the whole game!

This game is worrisome to me. Far from a given like most people think.
Detroit is young and athletic and exactly the type of team that gives us trouble because besides Keldon Johnson, none of our players are athletic enough to get their own shots consistently without screens.

Detroit has some guys balling.

Jerami Grant has been great but I think if Keldon is assigned to him he can be slowed.
Dwayne Casey has resurrected Josh Jackson's career
Saddiq Bey and Wayne Ellington(If he plays) are going to benefit from our terrible switching and have many wide open shots.
Watch out for Isaiah Stewart. He is a spark plug and just the type of player that destroys the Spurs.
Delon Wright has been sneaky good this year.

One of only two games a year I can watch locally without streaming it!

Forgot Grant is there and balling. We have to address the front court this off season if not sooner.

Enjoy the non-stream!

Man when Lonnie plays loose and focused like this he's so intriguing - passes, finishes at the rim, J's, 3s, just a terrific O display.

We are collapsing and blocking well so far tonight. Good rim protection.

Our drives aren't translating into FT shots (0-1 entire half), but that's also because when we get to the rim a lot of them are open layins and dunks, so I'll take it.

DJ is balling. He's in a nice rhythm and balancing finding guys and finding his shot.

Devin's high shot release is beautiful! Smart D positioning, too.

Hopefully Luka gets some minutes.

Go Spurs Go!!!

Solid team win! We did what we needed to do. And we looked better doing it, too:

I keep believing more and more that Lonnie is a couple of years experience and added confidence away from being a Devin Booker, Zach Lavine type player.

But unless we change our style of play he won't become that in our system. 1. Because we don't have a proper point guard. 2. Because on any given night, he may not even get more than a couple of shots with the team ball we play.

I love your enthusiasm about Walker but he will never in a million years come close to Booker or Lavine. Booker and Lavine are gifted scorers. They were gifted scorers when they were drafted and it took them time to become volume scorers in the NBA.

Walker is streaky at best and cant make a layup when anyone is within 10 feet of him. I think his ceiling is probably comparable to players like Tim Hardaway Jr or Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and that is only if he applies himself.

There are players that weren't overly gifted or great scorers in college that have turned it around in the NBA.

In saying that, I don't rate Booker or Lavine as All-stars, to put my Walker potential into perspective.

I was going to say All-Stars in my post but deleted it. I think we are on the same page there because I dont consider them All-Stars either. With that said, If Walker ever makes an All-Star team during his career I will drink a beer out of a dirty shoe

And I'm not trying to be a dick, but off the top of my head I cannot think of one player ever who wasn't a big scorer in college, high school or abroad that then became a number one scorer on his team in the NBA.

I'm not saying I'm not rooting for Walker to become one but I don't see it happening.
