GAME DAY, BALA! GAME 56: SPURS AT PACERS, 19-4-2021, 7PM (CT)

Post#1 » by G R E Y » Mon Apr 19, 2021 6:30 pm

Well through the ebbs and flows of the season with the schedule taking us to and fro, maintaining a consistent quality of play is key. While the high of the previous game shows us at our best, it's the raised floor through a defensive focus that will continue to get us our good play. Another day, another city, but within, may the constant of D-out to transition of good to great made baskets be the mainstay that sustains us.

Added wrinkle to our game plan: Turner and Sabonis are out. Run, pound the ball inside, get the rebounds, make our shots.

Again we're allowing some rando go off on us. Sumner with 7 early points. Like last time.

Sorry but with DeMar and Jakob back we're again tentative by Jakob inside, and over-orchestrating sets to make them perfect rather than reading and responding like last game.

We need to be way more aggressive - LOOKING AT YOU, JAKOB!!! - on O and push hard at them.

Nice to have our shots go in and the lid close for an opponent for a change.

We're hitting our outside shots which is opening up the lanes for us.

Good rebounding in the 1ST Q: 19-11

Jesus Christ Jakob and his **** missed bunnies. SO SICK OF THEM! He's scared to make a move because he's not confident in his moves and he just wants to get rid of the ball.

Another maddening habit amidst good play: Lonnie attempting to lay it in versus a C that blocks shots rather than bloody trying to dunk the damn ball.

I didn't not the last 3 or 4 possessions on O - one and done misses, and then we are lackadaisical in running back on D for 4-point swings. We must get into another gear.

I didn't like our O for the second half of the 2ND Q.

Just too soft, we took our foot off the pedal, and paid the price of less hustle and pace with missed shots and not running back on D for them cutting into our lead.

Why is DeMar taking end of Q 3s? And why is Patty passing them up? And can Lonnie **** figure out how to finish at them bloody rim already?! Keldon needs to get going: 1-4. DeMar isn't on tonight: 3-8. Lonnie:0-3. Patty: 0-0.

We NEED to give minutes to Devin and Dieng in the second half. WE NEED TO!!!

On the positives, Bubble Derrick looks like way back. Drew has been giving us awesome minutes on both ends.

Get hustling and aggressive, Spurs!

I'm very proud of our full team win. Sure our opponent was depleted, but we've lost against depleted teams, and won as the depleted team, too.

And I'm happy we won the two games around the day off that likely wasn't easy for Pop. Not sure it would have made a difference either way, but I like to think that our better overall play since the second half of the second Nuggets game has infused some hope back into the team as a whole and that has to translate as a far better place to be and be around - something positive to focus on growing. Having something to play for is always better. (And playing in front of fans next season is surely an added boost to look forward to as well.)

I'll say more later about this game, but just wanted to say for now that it looks as if we've turned a corner with our lever of play - both floor and ceiling - and are competing far better now.
