SPURS GAME DAY! GAME 19: SPURS VS. WIZARDS, 29-11-2021, 7:30PM (CT)

The last of our four-game home stint is versus a strong O east team with a lot of weapons. Our man and team D will be tested through the whole game so being focused, committed, and resilient with communication and consistent effort on that end is a must; on its foundation, we'll need to positively channel our best physicality, transition, and good and plentiful 3s in a variety of scoring. Protect the ball, rebound, play to our strengths.

Looking forward to watching Davontae play. He's the most experienced of the three, built like a tank with springs, and plays like it. Between him and Keldon I expect to see some wrecking balls through bowling pins type of action.

Good pace and push so far and quality help D. As Sean said, we can exploit transition pushes as they're not really running back on D hard.

We got those two thunderous dunks by Keldon and some inside presence from Derrick, but we have to finish strong at the rim. Use the glass, dunk when possible. I'd love it if we could use some weak side cuts to get behind their D and finish at the rim.

Well it's not exactly a shooting clinic. We're getting great chances but Christ are we missing in creative ways. Lots of open shots and it's make or miss - SO LET'S MAKE THEM! - and on drives we must use the glass.

I don't understand what happened to Derrick using the glass. He just had an airball on a drive. Oof.

DJ and Derrick are a combined 2-12, 1-6 each.

Only Drew and Keldon are shooting with good efficiency. We have to involve Jakob more, too.

Push, finish strong at the rim!

Pop calls a timeout to rage because we did something stupid(I think Eubanks horrible outlet pass) and the entire time the camera is on Washington's bench. Nice job producer.....

Dumb TOs with ball dribbles off our feet, one handed passes picked off on O, weak telegraphed passes after we steal again picked off, and we're not boxing out as well as we did earlier and we are giving up too many O boards and secondary chances.

Just a slog of a game. We have to get focused, lock in, and USE FUNDAMENTALS - GLASS, CRASH THE GLASS, PROTECT THE BALL, SMART PASSES.

What's with the home cooking calls for the Wizards?! Twice off them out of bounds but they got the ball, Keldon was pushed into driver by screener and he got called for it.

Lonnie's doing some great work on D, making some great passes, and missing his outside Js. I'd like to see him get some drives and dunks.

We need another Keldon-Jakob momentum generating play.

I'll admit I was wrong being soo critical of picking him. I thought there were guys available (Sengun) that could help us more now. I won't go overboard yet but he is showing he belongs and with great upside. He looks more comfortable on an NBA court than some guys we've had around here for 3-4 years....

2ND Q: SPURS 45

Well we just gave up a 31-point Q largely off of not making bunnies, missing Js in an impressive variety of ways, TOs (we have given up 10 points on our 7TOs to us getting four points off of their 3TOs, there's six points right there), and O boards for their second chance points. They have but a 8-7 edge on O boards but man does it feel like they're getting more points off of them (not sure if it's true, but we're giving up too many second chance possessions that make for at least four-point swings).

I'd love it if our physicality level went up like three or four notches coming into what is our worst Q so far this season.

We barely ran any back door plays and did not take advantage of our transition play nearly well enough versus a D that did not run back well.

We're utilizing Jakob more so that's great, but Jesus does he ever need more help. He, Keldon, Bryn and Josh are making their shots, and literally everyone is just... rattling, swirling, airballing, back of rimming it all over the place. It's like we don't have experience with these rims, lights, court feel, etc.

We're down six even with their making just 1-11 from 3. We're 4-12, so although both those numbers are low, our 3s are helping keep us in the game, something I don't often say.

I'd like to see us go balls out with energy in the second half. Force the issue, play smart, protect the ball, box out, impose our transition game by making shots with fundamentals, move more, and for the love of basketball gods MAKE OUR SHOTS, SPURS!

Christ it's hard to criticize Jakob but when you're the tallest player there, don't tippy tap it around on O boards but **** DUNK IT!

Once again we don't box out, they get the ball too easily and score on a second chance.

Love the push, love the points in transition, love the P&R Derrick great pass to Jakob inside, love the DJ dancing, scoring, and getting to the FT line. COME ON!

Well that's the way to break out of our 3RD Q patterns! A complete reversal of coming into the Q with a six-point deficit to a six-point lead.

I asked for us to involve Jakob more - check.

I asked for out back court to score more to help Jakob - check.

Now a STRONG, SMART, CLEAN FINISH WITH FUNDAMENTALS AND POISE. MAKE OUR SHOTS, MAKE OUR FT'S, FINISH GREAT.

I like that we're still playing locked in D for the most part and it's paying off on the other end.

Thad the smart vet is great at keeping us calm, making all the right passes, taking advantage of mismatches on old-school post-ups.
