It's just as well that we got some extra rest because we now embark on two back-to-backs, all travel, in six days. Brilliant schedule, that. But all teams face various adversities, schedule or otherwise, and so any extra advantage we can get in facing ours is a bonus. We're on an upward trajectory facing a team we're chasing that is on a stronger one still. One play at a time; one game at a time; our best two-way play throughout.

Slow start for a 9-0 deficit turns into a wake-up call, a 13-2 run, and now 18-18 at their timeout. We can get whatever we want inside, frankly, but need to get back on transition D to prevent their too easy basket inside on us.

1ST Q: SPURS 26
GRIZZLIES 32
We're getting out paced. They have 31 shots to our 23. We did well to get to the FT line, 4-8, and hitting 3s well, 4-8, but need to get back on D, and get rebounds in our end to limit their second chance points.

We're somehow making a game of this despite their ongoing O boards and second chances. Good push and variety of shots by us. When we're passing and moving we make good things happen.

2ND Q: SPURS 61
GRIZZLIES 63
Well we won the 2ND Q 35-31 on better two way play as we closed the gap on their pace.
They're still getting whatever they want on our boards, and though it's only 10-9 for them, it feels like they're getting more points off of their chances.
We're doing very well at the FT line getting 15 attempts, making 10 (Jakob is 1-4 *sigh*), we're making 3s well, 9-20, and protecting the ball well, only 3 TOs.
Tre looks like his Summer League self, leading us with 11 points in 11 minutes on a perfect shooting night. We're shooting well overall except for poor Keldon who is struggling with 1-9. Lonnie is 3-7 and isn't really making good decisions with the ball. He's back to slower, pull out with the ball decisions, resetting and running the clock. He did make a nice P&R bounce pass to Jakob, but he's settling for outside shots too much and driving erratically again.
Derrick has been his co-ordinated, crafty, gutsy self with physical drives, sneaky makes down low, stepping up to lay his body on the line to take the charge and get cut above the eye for his efforts. He's been terrific in looking to drive, making outside shots, deft passes, etc. Just a terrific two-way half for him.
Good that Pop put Thad in because their bigs are pushing Jakob and Jock around down low. Thad looks like he hasn't missed a beat and is hustling falling to the ground to save the ball, boxing out to get rebounds, etc. Good physical presence. Something we absolutely have to address at some point.
Terrific rotations, and guys stepping up well.
We absolutely have to take care of our boards and run back on D to prevent easy transition points in the second half.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Derrick is his herky-jerky self, making spins, seeing eye passes to cutters.
And we're running back on D as Jakob blocked their drive form behind. Solid start, keep up the push.

Missed chances here with some good D stops but Keldon is just not into this game, turning it over again and again.

Not a great stretch here as we give up a five-point lead and are now down 2. Just clumsy on O and fouling too much on D. Either the drives are not finished because they get hands on it or we miss out side shots too early in the clock. Lonnie and Keldon are the O culprits right now. We need to put other guys in who can score. Devin. Tre. Bryn. Somebody...

Just wayyyyyyyy to many wasted possessions by Lonnie and Keldon bricking everything and now we're down 11. Feels like a missed opportunity.

3RD Q: SPURS 79
GRIZZLIES 91
Well they're back to taking and making way more shots than we are. 79-71 FGAs, and 38-29 made shots for them.
Keldon was 1-3, Lonnie was 1-5 in the Q.
I'm just a fan, but giving the ball to the two guys who have made the least number of shots only for them to continue to miss isn't the formula for success. And then we kept giving up points the other way and here we are.

Jock was getting bodied BADLY by them. Just too physical an opponent and he didn't make nearly the impact he had before. Just a bad match up for him.
Thad was actually effective as the biggest 4 we have and he was able to box out and screen well. Good job for us tonight with just what we need. We sorely need to address the PF position at some point...

We have Primo in and Bryn's out there 'ball handling' and turning it over. Read the situation, mate.
