TRADE DEADLINE: Thursday, February 10, 2022, 3pm (ET)

This will likely be a short thread, probably longer on rumours than transactions, but we do have more players this season that other teams are interested in and on friendly contracts, so we'll keep track of potentials and actuals here.

We know that Thad is on the market; he's been on the market since we acquired him. We had a deal in place for Markkanen but their GM backed out. After seeing his abysmal defense, I'm not at all disappointed about it.

I just hope we get something for Thad rather than absorbing his expiring salary. There's a discipline to PATFO that I admire - they'd rather eat salary now than take back picks and players that eat into next year's cap, but the social media mob being what it is doesn't do long-term thinking well.

In Scott's piece it says Turner can be had for two firsts. How do we feel about that price? And about Turner potentially playing here? He has some connection with Pop through Team USA, but he's not a 'big' big if you know what I mean, more finesse than braun, sort of like Jakob. But he stretches the floor and is actually younger than Jakob but on a bigger contract. He's only averaging 12/7 this season. That's not a lot for his annual $20M. My instinct/preference would be to either offer Ayton a max or draft a big instead.

I think the only likely trade(s) is letting go of some veteran players for picks. Thad, Bryn, maybe even Doug?

At this point I don't believe we have a cornerstone piece we can build around, so our best bet is to tank.

If Ben Simmons wasn't a question mark I'd happily throw Murray + White to land him. Probably would let him sit the year and increase our draft positioning.

I'd even be on board with including most our players to take on Tobais' contract, he still only 29 and, honestly, better than any player on our roster.

I think Ben is good enough to build around, if you land him and Tobias, and if you get yourself a top 3 pick maybe you can have a nice trio, paired with Primo, Vassell, and K. Johnson (hopefully those guys can develop). I think that could be interesting?

Need a couple moves to see if we can get a play-in spot. I wonder if Toronto has something nice for Jakob Poeltl etc. or if we can pull off the Philly for Ben Simmons trade. Both seem like long shots, though. We might end up settling for smaller moves and see if that pans out.

Everything I've seen from Toronto is coming from Raptor fans and they all seem to think we want Boucher for some reason, who is three years older and 3 inches shorter than Poeltl and he isn't a 5. Plus Poeltl's contract is cheaper and he has more upside IMO. NO THANKS.

The attitude seems to be, "Well, we will take Poeltl off your hands but we aren't giving up one of our starters!" WTF is that??? It sounds like Philly fans

I've always been interested in a Simmons trade but not anywhere close to what Philly is asking for. Until they somehow come back to reality that's never happening.

Like you said, both are long shots and the Spurs don't do long shots. We will most likely get whatever we can for Young and if somebody wants to take Forbes you can have him for a stale bagel

I'm one of the minority who thinks the signing of McDermott was a waste of cap space so whatever we can get for him would be great also.

I LOVE Harris more than anyone but that contract is ridiculous. Someone would have to do me a huge solid to take that contract on(like guarantee me a first round lottery pick) and Philadelphia isn't doing that.

Yeah Harris has a bad contract, but by us taking it on it could/should be used as an incentive to avoid giving up this year's first round pick.

I'm really talking myself into this trade and resting Simmons all year, trust the process... lol

Juancho's deal is unguaranteed for next year so we're not really taking away from next year's cap.

Plus we get a 2028 2nd round pick.

No idea what's up with Juancho, FWIW. Ime Udoka didn't play him, either he's washed or Ime really likes having an 8-9 man rotation and he just got beat out by Horford and Grant Williams.

I'd agree that Horford and Williams are better but our bigs are a bit weaker outside of Poeltl so at least he might have a chance to prove himself. With Collins coming back soon and Landale proving he is useful its getting a little crowded in our frontcourt. If he could do at least what Landale is doing we could find a place for him.

So it's Bryn for Juancho which itself gives us more cap space next season (team option for Juancho's final year), plus a protected pick, plus some cash.

We've had trouble rebounding and with Juancho being a 3/4, we can finally roll out a bigger line-up overall should we need to.

I remember a close game vs. the Wolves that we almost lost when Juancho shot after clock expired. But before then, we couldn't stop him. Was one of those 'random guy goes off on us' games.

He'll be wearing #41.

He's only 26. I'm surprised. Thought he was older. Hopefully we can make some lemonade here. He'll be given a specific task to focus on at first (likely rebounding), and when he excels at it, more tasks. Let's see how it goes.

Yeah I never got the speculation that this frees up minutes for Primo. He's shown some flashes, but mostly also how green he is for the NBA level, and even with Bryn out, Primo would still be the third PG or SG off the bench. He needs reps of playing time and the best place for it is Austin:

Another rumor has them shopping Collins for a starter and a first round pick. Now I would do White for Collins and next years FRP or even protecting this years if its top 5. I don't think anyone we draft this year outside of the the top 5 is going to help us get much better.

I like White but he's reached his peak IMO. Collins may have reached his also but he does more of what we need to compete better than White does.

Hmm well we're just over half way through our first year of a rebuild. And already there are some positions that are solidifying, other shifting, and hard as it is for me to admit, Derrick's might be of the latter variety.

It's interesting that the Hawks reached out to us about him. And while we're still interested in Collins, I honestly wouldn't want to include this year's first round pick unless it's lotto protected. We're ranked around seventh right now, and getting Collins not only affects our lotto range, but it doesn't raise the ceiling that much higher.

I'd love to see what Zach can give in the PF position first before trading away our best pick position in one of the strongest drafts in years. Seems aligned for us to keep this one.

Cedi's 3s have increased in efficiency this season. He's a 6'7" SF and 26 which I didn't realize. Poor FT shooter. He's on a team-friendly contract with two more years after this season, each year decreasing money, which is even better for a team that has it on its books.

The Jakob interest we've heard from his previous team but it's interesting that we're listening to offers. I guess it's prudent to do so for just about everyone, but we've also made it clear it would take a haul to get him, and rightfully so.

Besides DJ, Jakob has been our most improved player in only his first full year as starter. Like DJ, he's nearly doubled his numbers in scoring, rebounding, assists, and is an incredible defender and rim protector. And he continues to get better.

So there are actually a lot of moveable pieces for us, with Bryn being the first expected domino to fall. We're clearly not hurting to score without his production, and with a pick, cash, and more cap space, it's worked out as designed. That cap space clearing is interesting, and I think part of a bigger plan come this summer -- which may affect our interest in Hawks' Collins. In other words, we have a price we're willing to pay, but are comfortable in not going over based on other options we have and are also laying out. Love the plan for now and for the future.

Of course, there's Thad, and also Lonnie to dangle as well, I think. Add Derrick to the mix potentially (though I think he's right now still more valuable to us than he would be to a trade partner and we're not actively looking to of load him. That said, maximizing assets is important, too), and I wonder whether we'd part with Doug? Tough as we just signed him as FA, but again it depends on what we're getting back and for what cost. Maybe even Drew?

Point being, lots of variables and options to play with that don't force us to over-commit assets on any single player out there (ie/Hawks' Collins).

Murray is in the second year of a four-year deal. He's been mentioned in the All-Star conversation, as he's averaged 19.2 point, 8.4 rebounds, 9.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game this season. At just $15.4 million for this season, Murray is an inexpensive upgrade for almost any team at the point guard position.

White is in the first year of a four-year, $68 million extension. While his shooting has slipped, White is seen as a solid two-way player that can play either guard position.

San Antonio rarely makes in-season trades, but recently traded guard Bryn Fobes to the Denver Nuggets.

Or is it better to be at ~34 wins and bring in talent upgrades somehow to get back into the playoff mix? We're 12th seed this year, so there should be a good chance at a high lotto pick either way.

Still thinking the Sixers and Spurs make a trade next week. Sixers send Simmons, Springer and Reed. Spurs send Murray, White and Johnson.

Pops will get a chance to work with Ben. I think he can bring him back to stardom. Springer offers quality depth at the position. BB Paul Reed is a wildcard developmental player. The G League MVP, he has not been able to get minutes for them.

Murray gives Sixers some height in the backcourt. They start two smaller guards. White would be the dependable bench scorer they need. Johnson would eventually replace Green at SF.
