Our defense is bad enough, we have no chance against Morant when he's feeling it. Thanks for the bull fighter defense though Primo

2ND Q: SPURS 58

GRIZZLIES 68

Well when a player gets hot, this is what happens. And when we keep not putting a body on him, this is what happens.

We had stretch there where we made it tough for their PG to get inside. We doubled and sealed the lane quick enough to force TOs, but when we didn't, it was layup city. Frankly speaking, and I mean this within the clear bounds of good tough basketball, we're too respectful of their most impactful player. Too much space, and when he drives, he has to FEEL our defense. Not dirty, but tougher. Make it hurt more to make him earn it more.

Primo is showing why he's not quite ready for this level, despite all the hurr durr we're holding him back in G=League! protests by social media experts on basketball, when they're not busy being experts on geopolitics or history or government.... All I know is, Pop is going to rip into young Primo for not contesting well enough even though he was only one of two Spurs back on their final pass.

Lonnie has kept us in it even if the way he plays is outside our system. You live with it when it goes in I guess, but the one and done Js with no one else touching the ball are not what we're about.

Some of our guys are doing a good job fighting over screens - DJ and Devin come to mind, and at times Tre - but on the whole we're getting absolutely abused on screens; we get stuck on them and by the time we recover the driver's well past us. We HAVE to anticipate better and angle ourselves to get around them better.

Some of our shots were not smart. Like I said at the beginning, they're a team that gets hands on balls, and us going at them from the side isn't working. When we use the body to protect the ball it goes much better for us. We're using the high low passes more but they quickly double the receiver and then the trailer so we either have to make that pass out quicker or pivot and dunk.

Our 3s aren't falling and it's a difference maker tonight. We've taken more shots overall, and more 3s, but we've not consistently made them. It's hard when they increased the pressure on us with a quicker pace, so we have to reset on D.

For all the hoopla and excitement of the 2ND Q, we only lost it by 2 points, that end of Q J. So it's not like we're that far behind despite the cheers.

We have to do better on the boards as they've got a 32-22 advantage (though we're missing more shots and have a 7-6 O board edge).

I'd like to see more of Joe - he's the pure 3s sniper and we could use it, especially if Doug's going to get torched on D and only give us 1-2 and Primo getting lost on both ends (I liked his right baseline drives but he over cooked it and tried a too fancy shot for a reverse miss - no points for style).

Zach is better down low but isn't giving us the stretch for a big we need. Hopefully Jock can help. Let's get JRich's experience with 3&D out there, too.

Most of all, make them feel us.

Spoiler:

Also, Pop must have torn into us at the half because we didn't come out the locker room until 2 minutes left in the break :o

This is what I was talking about the other night. If McDermott would just stay in his lane and shoot like Duncan Robinson does he might actually be useful. Then he tries to go all Kobe and looks stupid, costing us 3 possessions

Yeah Zach's struggling through getting his rhythm... I'd love to see what Jock can bring for us.

Again. We were JUST within a point. ONE point. And allow a run on poor shooting and leaky D especially on the boards for putbacks.

When their PG is spinning, TIE HIM UP to prevent the easy basket.

3RD Q: SPURS 85

GRIZZLIES 96

Well we had the ball to take the lead, chose to take a transition 3 instead of running a fast break traditionally, they pushed for another layup and then blew open their lead in finishing the Q on a 10-0 run.

Zach's struggling anywhere outside five feet of the basket and it's hurting us. He's over-dribbled and TOd it several times now (not this game, but since he's gotten regular minutes), and again I'd like to see Jock get some time.

Just break downs all over the place from errant passes to allowing too easy drives to the basket.

And considering we lost that Q by 1 point, that 10-0 run to end the Q was significant. Just on our heels too much and far too respectful on their drives. It's too easy for them. Make them feel it.

Yeah we've got to find one final gear. Our feet looking stuck to the floor on their O boards... given up so many in the second half.

Yeah I see it, gump. Weirdo erratic Doug finish and miss and then they drive for a 2. Four-point swing.

AGAIN. We were JUST within five points... poof! down 10...
