We embark on the first of a four-game road trip versus West teams whose standings mostly affect ours. We control what we can, made better by a couple of reinforcements returning. We're looking to strengthen our D identity and competitive spirit. Do these well, all else flows from them.
WHERE: Chase Center, San Francisco, CA
WHEN: Sunday, March 20, 2022, 7:30pm (CT)
GO SPURS GO!!!

Better D, better aggressiveness, better ball movement, better drives, better rebounding. Lead. Amazing.
Nice that we're starting this one with some pride and determination.

I figured there would be better effort tonight. I'm surprised Vassell started and not Richardson just because Walker is out. Pop always likes that bench scorer.

1ST Q: SPURS 36
WARRIORS 22
Hoooooooweeeeeee! Torrid pace. Much better engagement, pace, and execution. Much more assertive O and aggressive O. We are going TO and AFTER the ball on rebounds and tip outs.
We did get caught on a couple of back door cuts and cuts into the key with a couple of Spurs ball watching so that's something to clean up.
Our bigs are doing great work - Jakob inside, Zach outside.
Good FGA efficiency, good 3s, good FTs. Good rebounds.
Just protect the arc, and keep up the energy.

I'm surprised PRIMO is the starter. We moved Derrick to give the role to Devin so that wasn't a surprise. But I guess we need JRich for the bench scoring role which makes sense.
But the kid made 2-3, did well overall so far... at least on O. He got caught ball watching on a couple of back door cuts.

Good fight back to a 10-point lead after they made their initial push to start the 2ND Q.

UUUUUGH... We just **** ball watched as it bounced to them and we fouled and then they get the basket. Terrible. GET FOCUSED OR SIT.

DJ bad decision late in Q to take a pass to no one else contested J miss, then he follows it with a foul to put them to the FT line.
Really DO NOT like these tendencies of his of late to 'take over the game' only to **** our rhythm up where no one else touches the ball. Why? We are leading. We don't need your ISO tunnel vision 'heroics'.
Somebody from Spurs staff better get in his ear. There's enough for a pattern for film room.

2ND Q: SPURS 63
WARRIORS 57
Well we just gave up a 35-point Q. Their extra pace and aggressiveness is one thing, but us giving up back door cuts, open 3s (?!?!?!), and O boards is another. They have a 29-20 rebounding lead already, and a 14-9 on O boards as well. The final one came on their last made basket. We are BLEEDING points on our boards.
DJ"s decisions as 'I'm the MAN' mentality HAS TO **** STOP. You are the PG that gets everyone involved, not takes everyone out of our rhythm and system by hunting for yours despite being contested and stubbornly getting into congested areas for blocks and misses, this without passing the ball to anyone. Too much over-dribbling on those man-a-mano attempts, and it just telegraphs to opponents that DJ is going to try to take his shot.
He is getting defended by bigger opponents again, and is being doubled up high near the half court now, and yet he's over-dribbling again. He got away with it with a pass to Zach who hit a 3 and it bailed us out, but damn he has to understand that he can't dribble his way out of these but through quick recognition and PASSING so we take advantage of a 4 on 3 in our favour when he has two defenders on him.
Good, balanced scoring between starters and bench. Tre is doing great work on both ends, running our sets, following drivers for the O board putback and getting fouled and making the FT, fighting over screens.
We are getting killed down low on some switches with our guards stuck defending their bigs and help D coming too late.
But on other plays we have doubled the dribbler down low and then doubled the pass recipient once again to force TOs. Good quick switches work. All it takes is one guy ball watching - looking at you, Primo - and we're scrambling. Trial by fire. Welcome to the league, rook!
Nice drive by Joe. Assertive. Earned his FTs.
Great work by our bigs. I think Zach can play even bigger by which I mean when we pass inside to him, he tends to almost squat to try to see where he can pass. He has the size advantage and should use it otherwise he does the work for the smaller player by matching the height and neutralizing his natural edge. Hold the ball high.
We got 17 points off their TOs is great work by us.
Terrific end of Q 3 awareness by Devin for that final 3. Big edge.
We MUST keep pushing and play OUR game rather than getting caught up into a punch for punch on O or 3s. We must be aware of their cuts and provide help D better. And of course, rebound the hell out of the ball. Go TO it.

I. JUST. SAID. DO. NOT. BALL. WATCH.
And was that DJ getting caught on Dre driving right past him on a cut INTO our key for an uncontested layup?
Pop timeout, scowling at our stupid defense, especially from who's supposed to be one of our top defenders.

Two missed DJ bunnies and KJ decides to run something up top, nice pass to cutting Primo right side curl drive to the left over a screen and a pretty left handed off the glass layup.

I've given up on us playing good defense this year. They will have to make it a priority from the beginning next year.

Primo makes a three and Sean feels it necessary to do a big draw up review of the play to tell us how good Primo is
