And now we move into the next phase of our season which of course includes the upcoming draft.
Key dates coming up.
Let's also keep track of prospects in our range, rumours of who we worked out, and who we want/team needs/BPA.
And fingers crossed that the number we left free gets filled soon

I am going out on a limb here but my hope is that if the Spurs get #1, they trade it to a team like Utah for Laurie and 5+ first rounders or the Blazers for Clingon and Deni +3 first rounders. Need more first rounders from the Jazz as Lauri has a max contract while the Blazers players have good contracts.
Rationale for my thinking is that the Spurs are close and need to accelerate now rather than spend significant attention developing another high ranked rookie. Wemby's scare this season is essentially a wakeup call, we need to go all out for the next 4-5 years to see if that brings a chip or three.
Also, I think the NBA needs to capitalize on Flagg wherever he is and being on the Spurs, he will never get the attention the league expects. Just think what it will mean to the Jazz, Wizards, Blazers if they get Flagg. He will rejuvenate those entire franchises for at least 4 years, irrespective of whether he becomes an All NBA player or not.

I understand your thinking but it would be hard to pass on Flagg. Anyone else maybe, say we get in the top 4.
I will disagree about us being close though. We weren't even close to being a play-in team even with Wemby. Fox fell into our laps, we didnt seek that trade out. (I will give it to the FO because once it was obvious he wanted to come here we still got a pretty good deal) Also Fox really hasn't been very successful in the NBA even though he was stuck in Sacramento. Maybe if Pop comes back and is actually Pop again that will help but I didn't like the lack of direction we were headed even before he got ill. If we are stuck with Mitch we aren't going anywhere Im afraid.
8th isnt the end of the world (especially if we could land Knueppel) but we really have to upgrade this roster with some talent outside of the draft.
Look what Detroit has done in one season just by adding some vets and making players accountable and they dont even have a Wemby

While we're still in BPA mode, and we don't yet know where we're drafting - so BPA and team needs may overlap perfectly - let's talk the latter.
Of course, we've addressed starting PG well, and I expect us to re-sign Fox. But we may be without CP and Branham, McLaughlin is UFA, and Nunez is recovering from injury.
A quality backup PG / future starting PG is in order.
Of course starting SF.
And starting PF.
Plus backup C.
LOTS of shooting.
LOTS of work for PATFO to do.
And I don't think we address all of these through the draft.

Quick question what do you guys do at 2? Harper is clearly the 2nd best player in the draft do you pick him up even with Fox? Trade Fox? Play them both, with Fox at the two? Trade the pick? There is a good chance Harper will be better than Fox. Harper reminds me of Cade.

Think Giannis package...
But let's say we draft for us. We are not good enough to draft for position. BPA. If we determine it's Harper, so be it. We are re-signing Fox. Castle can play 1, 2, 3. Harper can be slotted at either guard, I think. We will have a guard glut so for sure trades to upgrade the team.

I wouldn’t trade for Giannis, I think that would be shortsighted move. Wemby and Harper might be a crazy duel for years to come.

There's only so many picks you can play. At some point, you consolidate assets for higher level win now talent. Not all assets, not all older guys, but Giannis is a perennial MVP candidate who had better stats in the POs, at position of need who wants to play alongside talent who takes some of the focus off him. There are few opportunities to get even a chance to swing at players of his caliber. The time to add talent is while Wemby is still on his rookie contract.
