Mahinmi to Play?

Let's get some athleticism and youth in this team.
This team is just too small and just too old to play well in the regular season.
We'll need Mahinmi to guard the likes of David West and Dirk in the playoffs.
Finally, last recommendation, call up Dermar Johnson from the Torros. Last couple of seasons we passed on Steven Jackson and Turkoglu and look what these two players have been doing in their top ranked teams. The Spurs have always done well with a tall guard. Just ask Shawn Elliot.

I think Mahinmi may get numerous oppurtunities.
Elson (along with Duncan at the basket) has already proven to be quite effective guarding Dirk. The strategy has only been used over a game once, and the other time it was still effective, but a lot shorter (for some minutes). Obviously being saved for a potential playoff meeting. That's part of why Elson's on this team, because of his quickness and length on both ends of the court. He'll be back in the rotation (in some form) soon, came back from injury a week ago, and Pop's been getting Horry more time. Along with going small a number of times. Plus Oberto getting his usual time. Elson was playing pretty well before he got hurt.
But I think Mahinmi would favor to be a factor defensively against quicker PFs in the future.
Doubt Pop's going to use Mahinmi in the playoffs...

Well I am not happy with Elson's play to say the least and honestly Mahinmi can honestly provide the same mins as him.
I do like the idea of playing Johnson but he just isn't on the same talent level as Jackson and Turk. I don't have expect much from him.

im pretty optimistic about mahinmi. hes still young, 21 i think, and he put up respectable numbers in the D league. 18 and 8 is pretty good. Hopefully he continues to develop and get better.

Pop doesn't hate youth move. It's not wasy to find a good and inexperienced guy who deserves a chance in a winner team. Drafting after 25 is also doesn't help you a lot.
Pop gave a chance to Parker in his first year and he did quite well. Manu wasn't young but he played preety much as a sixth man in his rookie season. The starter of team was Stephen Jackson that year and he was also a young guy.

Mahinmi won't play this season until the tail end of the season. They want him to get seasoned in American basketball in the D League. Next year, he and Splitter will replace Oberto and Elson.

^ That last part is bold...
I doubt they'll both be in the rotation, or one of them starting immediately. Especially for the playoffs. One in the rotation, the other not as much, is what I'd expect. Oberto or another veteran big I'd expect to start.
One of the younger guys replaces Elson (probably) and a new veteran big replaces Horry.
