Stoudamire a Spur soon?

Post#1 » by Blame Rasho » Tue Jan 29, 2008 10:33 pm

Mike Monroe: Stoudamire a Spur soon?

It can't happen until early Wednesday evening, when Damon Stoudamire clears waivers, but it now appears likely the Spurs will sign the 5-foot-10 point guard who on Monday finalized terms of a buyout of his contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Stoudamire had expressed interest in signing with both the Spurs and the Boston Celtics, but seems to have settled on San Antonio as his destination of choice.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who doubles as the team's vice-president of basketball operations, can't speak about Stoudamire until he clears waivers tomorrow night. He did, however, express a high degree of interest before Monday night's game against the Utah Jazz in whether or not Stoudamire had officially gotten out of his deal in Memphis.

The Spurs, in need of additional scoring, also are acutely aware of the frailty of their point guard situation because of the injury that has bothered Tony Parker for nearly two months. Parker's explosiveness has been limited because of a bone spur in his left heel.

Stoudamire averaged 7.3 points in 29 games with the Grizzlies this season, but shot only 39.7 percent, and 38.7 percent from 3-point range. He has been in the league since 1995 and has a career scoring average of 13.8.

Overall, I think we should get him. Just he's going to have to adjust quite a bit when he goes to the bench.

Good to see RC and Pop read my posts on RealGM.

hehe. Man i hope this happens! It seems every other team is improving except us. While it wouldn't be a major signing i think it's a smart one to get Parker some rest and add another shooter. Get it done RC!

He'd automatically become one of the big three alongside Duncan and Manu with the way this team is playing right now.

never have been a big fan of him and I'm not sure, if I like him as a spur...but I would give him a chance, especially with our PG-situation

He didn't just choose the Spurs. He said before that his number one destination is Boston, but apparently we don't want him. That's why he chose you. I think this is a big mistake we did and we will regret not getting him... in the playoffs. Ainge is waiting for Cassell, but he is insane to think he will get bought out. Good signing!

Stoudamaire definitely wouldn't be the solution on defense but that's not really a major problem for this team anyways. He couldn't hurt this team offensively and is a decent playmaker though so signing him makes plenty of sense. He'll be a decent role player and will hopefully help this team regain some confidence.

Damon Stoudamire plans on signing with the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday morning when he clears waivers, according to his agent, Aaron Goodwin.

Nice.

He'll be needed. Aside from the starting role for a bit, I think he'll probably be fine.

Well he isn't exactly the guy who I think who will change our season, but in retrospect it just makes me indifferent.

boston vs. san antonio:
game seven...4 seconds to go...spurs down 2...
bostons eddie house (rondo fouled out and cassel never waived) looses the ball to mighty mouse (tony with angleproblems since round two of the playoffs and vaughn in foultrouble)...he dribbles...stops against no defenders...and hits the 3!!! whaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha

...mighty mouse screaming: you damn

Mighty mouse will be pretty sweet on the spurs...add some more scoring off the bench.

This is a good move. I was getting worried about the prospect of Vaughn being our starting PG *shudders*.

At least Damon can get hot and fill up the scoresheet now and then.

Welcome to the Spurs Mighty Mouse!
