Lost three in a row, everybody knows what i am talking about.. What's next? Any Trades? Anything?
I've said it before, somehow get Magette in here!

Maggette's not coming.
I think you also need to get more of an expanded outlook on this team and the season. Your perspective seems limited with these type of threads recently.

we don't need a player of that caliber..lesser players are fine..the big 3 is fine..we just need others that can FINISH the plays..****..
I keep saying this, Oberto has regressed heavily..he couldn't even go up strong for a simple **** layup to take the lead at the end..I realize that's only one play, but he just can't finish or defend like he did last year..he's too soft..it seems like he can only convert on anything if Ginobili passes him the ball..
I wouldn't mind him as a backup..we need an athletic C that can play with Timmy..not Elson, we need someone that has basketball IQ..
Bonner is useless..I like him, but he doesn't have a role..he makes 3's, but he doesn't do anything else a big man should do..especially not on a team like ours that needs to play D..
Bowen is regressing, sadly..he can't play D like he used to, and he can't make shots lately..he's still one of the better defenders at his position, definitely, but he can't give us the minutes he used to..I don't think he should be playing 30 minutes a game during the regular season anymore..I know he's in great condition, but we're going to need him for the playoffs(if we even make it), so Pop needs to put some more trust in Ime..
Michael Finley is useless to this team..he isn't consistent enough offensively to make up for his bad D..he needs to go too..Barry is a better shooter, so having Finley is pointless..
the shot selection on this team has been bad too..even Duncan, why was he standing there for the last shot he took? he ends up taking an 18 foot J, which is unacceptable at that point in the game..
Pop also can no longer play the mediocre lineups he plays to start off quarters..we aren't good enough to weather that storm..
Parker needs to stay on the sideline for a bit..even if we keep losing, we need him to get healthy so we can hopefully make a run at some point..
Oberto or Elson must go..Finley has to go..make a package to get a 3-point shooter that can play D, and an athletic big..those are the 2 main weaknesses of the team..

Who can honestly be had at the trade deadline?
Carlie Villanueva?

I don't know if we can trade for someone...

You never know. Remember Malik Rose for Nazr back in 2005. That was unexpected, at least for me. The Spurs like someone addressed don't need to trade any of the big 3. They do need to make a couple of changes. One to the frontcourt and the other to the backcourt. The Spurs are heading to a point where you might want to say "long in the tooth". I know they have a good record right now. But with key injuries and the players ages. How long will they be able to last w/o making a couple of changes. If the Spurs wish to be repeat champs. They need to consider some trade options to keep their chances to repeat being champs alive.

if we are going to be dealing with seattle, id rather make a push for kurt thomas, with barry+elson+pick as the package. its a simple expirings for expirings deal, with seattle landing a pick for the trouble.

the biggest asset aside from an immediate PG is a Power Dunker, we lack that big time as shown last night with Oberto missing a freaking layup.

The Spurs really need to go younger in the frontcourt, like north of 30, not south of 30 which Kurt Thomas is, unfortunately. And with Barry going in the trade, the Spurs are losing some of the offense he provides despite the Spurs struggles right now.

well we're going to HAVE to give something good up to get anything in return..I am 100% sure someone will take Elson..he's the type of player many teams would take a chance on..we'd have to get rid of either Finley or Barry, and I'm sure someone would take one of them in the package..
we don't need a big time player, just someone that can fill a role..shooting and anything good up front..we'll see what Stoudamire can give us, since it looks like he'll be on the team soon..that won't solve the entire problem though, not even close..
I don't want Charlie Villanueva, he would be useless to this team..he doesn't rebound or defend..he's going to be Tim Thomas v.2 IMO..
I wouldn't mind getting someone like Chris Wilcox or Nick Collison from Seattle somehow..

agreed. but like ive said in numerous other threads, what sub-30 year old player, who is a solid defender, rebounder, and/or shot blocker, is available for what the spurs have to offer (expirings+pick)? if someone can give me a name, id jump all over it. until then, KT is the best, and most available player at present time, IMO.

From all that I know and have seen, Wilcox isn't that solid on defense and rebounding. Good finisher, athlete, and has a decent offensive game, though. Not sure how smart he is as a player, and also has no playoff experience.
I don't really know about getting him, like said, I'd rather get Collison or Kurt Thomas.
Jamaal Magloire is above-average defensively, tough, big, around average offensively, but isn't he the type of center we changed our center look for? Not too much on mobility. I don't know if we'd go after him.

We just have to accept that Karma is finally tearing our team apart. We've gotta start doing good things as people and good things will happen for the Spurs.
It works trust me.

zaza is the antithesis of what the spurs are looking for right now. he is playing so poorly for the hawks right now that he cant even manage to stay on the floor for any stretch of time. something is wrong with him. and even at his peak, zaza was not a solid defender (just a banger), no shot blocking threat, and rebounded as a worse rate than oberto is now (ie, poor). would still take him if he was producing at a even half decent clip, but hes not, and until its readily known why, id avoid zaza like some kind of plague.
SD2042 wrote:Jamaal Magloire
i dont know why this guy is still getting run in this league. mags has had probably the fastest and most profound drop in ability in resent years. he just makes the sub-30 line (but would turn 30 late in the playoffs). his offensive game has almost totally disappeared, while his defensive game has regressed considerably since his all-star campaign. and like zaza, he hasnt shown anything this year, so i will go off of the mags from a year ago. he can still be serviceable post defender, but his mobility (or at least his willingness to move) has greatly decline recently. he is still good for the occasional block thanks to his size, but was never a shot blocking force in the first place (career 1.0 bpg). and he can still rebound at a respectable clip some nights. but again, this guy is circling the bowl, and has been for several years now.
that said, i would still take mags. he may be a void pretty much everywhere else, but he can still get in there and pull down some boards given minutes. but the spurs are now over the luxury tax, so any extra salary there bring in will cost them double. add in the fact that i wouldnt on my life be willing to part with any respectable assets to take a chance on the guy at this point. and that id much rather have a 5 month rental of KT than a 5 month rental of mags. KT is a better rebounder, better defender, similar shot blocker, and has a superior offensive game at this point in their careers.

On Mags, I can see why he doesn't fit into the Nets scheme. He's not a runner. He would benefit better in a half court style where he would be more effective player in the post. On Zaza, I really don't know what happened from a year ago when he was averaging 12.4PPG and had decent rebounding numbers. Zaza as you said is a banger. He has some room to improve his game since he's only 23 or 24yrs old. How much Zaza needs to improve by. That truly depends on how hard he works on improving his game.
I get what you're saying about KT and how you feel the Spurs would best benefit from getting him. How old will the Spurs get age wise on the roster b4 the age thing may hit them where it hurts. There are 9 teams including the Spurs that have good records and vying for a playoff spot right. Some of those teams have a mix of young and old players. The Spurs have 10 players over 30yrs old. Four of them over 33yrs old. Either way we look at this. The Spurs definately need to make some improvements on their roster.

totally agreed. but im more concerned with the here and now. i understand the spurs need to get younger, and they probably will in the coming years.
horry, barry, and finley are all expiring this year, with horry and possibly barry both retiring (barry has sent a few mixed messages thus far on that front). splitter will be over next season, and hopefully ian can crack the rotation by the season after next. and id figure with manu getting another year older, bowen being about old as dirt, and his "future successor" already 30, the spurs would probably look to free agency for a younger wing. and with the tax not an issue for the first time in a couple of year this summer, it wouldnt surprise me if a large portion to all of the MLE goes toward that cause (with guys like james jones, carlos delfino, kelenna azubuike all being at the top of my list).
i guess it comes down to who out there would provide more production this season than KT would? who out there is better than 7, 9, and 1 in 25 minutes, and is available for what the spurs have to offer?

I definitey would like Thomas, even though he's older, he's a high-level role-player.
Maybe not quite realistic, but Jeff Foster possibly? Barry+Elson+R1 pick for him. Indiana's semi-rebuilding and are on thin ice of making the playoffs.
I've always loved him. He's mobile enough (above-average for a big man) to guard quicker bigs, so losing that ability from Elson would be fine.
I think he'd be a sweet fit on this team. I'd be estatic if we got him.

i've said it before and i'll say it again. RON ARTEST would be a PERFECT fit. he's a much better verison of bruce bowen.. and i'm positive he'll stay grounded with the vets.
