The future

Post#1 » by lukeridenour » Mon Feb 4, 2008 1:12 pm

There are a lot of doubters out there right now, not us spur fans but the basketball fans in general. many believe that we are now "mediocre" but the true spur fans know better.

not only am i excited about the spurs eventually turning it up and making a strong championship push, but im also excited about next year.

couple things to look forward to:
1.Splitter and Manhimi finally being on our roster, for manhimi, weve waited for 3 years, lets hope it was worth it.
2. Spanoulis possibly coming back to complete are backcourt. i think hes a great talent who never got a shot in houston. after listening to van gundy commentate on games, i can tell hes not too bright.
3. should be an interesting offseason with couple of our contracts coming off the books. should be interesting to see which direction we go to fill out our roster spots.
4. ofcousre the draft, the spurs never fail to surprise.

well im a little shocked that the majority of the posts are just to say that span isnt coming. no one else has anything to add or even agree with me?

anyways parker and span had a good convo this past summer in the euroleague and the possibility is higher than you might believe. also span has a player option for his current contract so that also heightens the chances.

on spursreport.com vspans good friend is claiming that span is warm to the idea of joining the spurs!

if he does come, what do you guys think? positive or negative?

I'm excited about Splitter coming for sure. With Ian as a 7-8th man off the bench we get younger a whole lot quicker when Horry/ Barry/ Finley retire. We obviously need some younger wings too. I'm not sure about VSpan. if you say he;s coming then it may be good, otherwise i don't hold much hope for it.

1) for vspan to come over, we are going to have to offer a deal starting at around 4 mil a season to match his current salary. spurs (and no other team, for that matter) is going to offer that. vspan has shown nothing in the nba, and doesnt warrant such a contract. and from what kill bill has said in previous threads on other boards, thats what it would take.

2) kill bill, the guy that just showed up on spursreport, has been on spurstalk for about 6 months. and he has effectively destroyed almost any goodwill he could have possibly had over there, from about every single clique/faction/individual there. he apparently gave up, and decided to try a new board.

he simply blindly touts vspan, regardless of what anyone else says. he never accepts any criticism against vspan, and has an explanation for anything anyone says, regardless of merit or logic. at this point, the guy could tell me that grass is green and the sky is blue, and it would probably make be doubt it.

taking back vspan at his current nba value (ie, cheap)? sure, bring him on. but if kill bill really is a friend (which i doubt, probably just a crazed stalker), and everything he has said over the last half year or so is actually true, no way vspan will ever be a spur.

interesting. thanks for the info on kill bill, just read his posts so i'll admit i dont know anything about him or his relationship with vspan.

however i agree that if he does come cheap, then its a positive thing.

With Diop going to the Nets now, I'd say that significantly increases the possibility we can sign him.

Diop would be a nice fit and addition over the summer.

Yeah. So, doubtful they'd want to keep him with Boone, S. williams, and Krstic there.

I'd sway to no because those guys need to develop more, and are more important to them. Even Krstic with getting back to form from a couple injuries, and is still pretty young himself.

Diop was expiring this summer when he was in Dallas too :D

Anyway, while Elson and Horry leaving, Splitter and Diop would be nice replacements for next year.

No, Diop had a team option. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... n_on_diop/

And yeah, that'd be really good.

That option was exercised for 2007-2008 season. He's expiring this summer:

By the way, if an option would exercised by the former team, that right will be keeped even the player will be traded. A trade doesn't make the player free-agent
