Spurs altered chamionship banners to show class?

Post#1 » by Magz50 » Fri Mar 21, 2008 5:30 pm

I was reading a soccer forum and the term "world champions" came up in regards to American sports like baseball, football and basketball and the poster mentioned the only team out of all those sports to have amended their championship banner to read "league Champion" rather than "world champion" is the San Antonio Spurs. I don't have any proof of this but if it's true that's made me love the Spurs even more. I've always found that whole "world Champion title" in most US sports extremely arrogant and insulting to the rest of the leagues around the world. Well done Spurs for once again making me feel good about being a fan of such a classy organisation.

yes, it is true. Here, in Europe, when someone win a title, wins the title of its country.

But remember, States is another world, so SAS was the winner of that world.

I've always pondered the "world champion" in general for titles in competition in the US as well... I think that's a great thing done by this organization.

And, hey, it's rare (at most) that I notice an F1 fan on this forum. Love F1, myself. Kimi finally getting that WDC last year was tremendous.

I dont know about the banner, but I can remember them anouncing it as "NBA-champion" in '99 and it was thought to be called so from that day on...what have LA, DET and MIA done after that?
