08 Playoffs: The Others

Post#1 » by Donald Kaufman » Sat Apr 26, 2008 6:09 am

Thought I'd make a thread where we could discuss the other series.

How bout those Sixers?! 20 pt win over the Pistons!!! Who'd of thought that the Sixers look like getting the better end of the Iverson deal?

Kind of ironic that the Nuggets will most likely end up going home in the 1st round. Would be nice to see the 76ers get up and take the series. They play very well as a team.

I knew they were a solid team before they beat us that game, and aren't a typical low seed team because of how they play, and how well they played in the 2nd half of the season. They just developed a confidence, chemistry, and hard-nosed style, with what they have.

Especially against Detroit with their mind-set at times, and it's shown up again, as usual early in the playoffs - Philly isn't like the Bucks and Magic of past years :).

I thought the Sixers would have a good chance to get a game at home, because of being at home, and how Detroit can play down. But I didn't expect them to win by so much, and for Detroit to play that badly.

I still expect Detroit to win the series, but in order to take control of this series and without much more trouble - they have to get on the ball now. They could well be in for a whole lot more than they expected if they don't up the level of play and focus. I expect them to come out and get it done well in G4...

I thought before the series this could go six - now, I think it can go seven

I had a feeling this series wasn't going to be of much ease for Detroit... I would just love to see Philly upset.

Arenas possibly not playing in Game 4.

If the Nuggs lose to LA, do they make a big move, ie. trade AI/Melo/Camby or potentially replace Karl with an actual coach?

This year's playoffs have been....well, interesting. I am shocked at how poorly the Pistons, Nuggets, Mavericks, Suns are playing. I think the Nuggets will replace Karl and possibly 1-2 players but no more than 2. I can't wait for the next round to start. Go Spurs!

Just a solid, solid win by the Lake Show

Like in the regular season, continue to have a significant edge on Denver

Denver really has to address their issues in the off-season into pre-season... get better on both ends of the court, more under control.

Denver needs to blow up their team... it just isn't good enough in the west.

Philly will take it in 6. Game 3 has shown that they are the better team. They are playing with more hunger and motivation and the stats validated it. Detroit is done.

Denver is a joke. I'd rather have Nellie's Warriors in the playoffs. You know they'd have heart to compete and fight to the end. Neelie's defense might not impress more than Karl's, but they'd fight harder at it and fight harder for the win.

Utah losing at home again to Houston was weird. If they lose again in Game 4, wow, look out. That would piss me off though for the LAkers to get THAT easy of a road to the WCF. I think UTah could take them in a 7 game series.

Pistons, what a dissapointment. I was hoping these guys were focused and challenge thos Celtics for the ECF. You never know, maybe they get it right.

Geez, the HAwks all fired up killing the Celtics right now! Crazy!

You know, if both the Suns and Mavs get kicked out in the first round, it will officially mean the closed window for both in my book.

And after so many years of hearing how Dirk and the Mavs were so much younger than TD and would be contending for so much longer, especially after they eliminated us two years ago. And the Suns too, younger and built for longer (besides Nash of course). So many years of hearing that TD peaked 3 or 4 years ago and would be declining at the age of 30, haha! We're too old and too slow and boring and yada-blah-blah...

It's very tempting to open a topic on that irony. But I'll take the high road.

Quality post, SM.

I'll most likely take the low road, it's more my style.

Great win by the Hawks. I, like most I assume, picked the Celts to sweep. So that's out the window.

I also picked the Lakers-Nuggets series to go 7. I underestimated the Lakers and overestimated the Nugget's chances.

Rockets-Jazz is just a horrible series. I don't mind the Jazz most times, I find them interesting to watch - except when they play the Rockets. Ppl call us boring - Houston are by far the most boring team in the west playoffs. I don't think Yao would've livened things up too much.

I like the prediction, TAI8... generally, it's bold. I'm rooting for Philly, too. Be interesting to see how the rest of that series goes. Can't rule out an upset.

Suns/Mavs just aren't as good as us... more flaws. And, were going to get younger and re-tool some in the off-season.

Detroit really controlling things now, thought they'd get going sometime

And this is one of the times where the T is beneficial to Rasheed and the rest of the team

West with the great game as the Hornets take it to the Mavs in Dallas.

Mavs one loss away from three straight playoff flops.

Dallas' offensive option situation has been exposed again... and unfortunately even worse with Howard being not the same since Kidd's been there. Specifically there, they have to adjust to eachother.

Julian Wright played a nice game

Yeah I don't know what's happened to Josh Howard. Cuban would probably love to move him, but with his lacklustre performance in the playoffs, along with his fessing up to being a drug user, I can't imagine he would have much trade value.

The problem with mid-season trades is that you spend most of your time trying to get the chemistry right in time to make a playoff run. It worked for Detroit when they got Sheed in '04 - it looks like it's going to backfire badly for Dallas and Phx.

On a side note, have there been two teams that have regressed as quickly as the two that made the Finals just two years ago? It's really quite amazing how far they have both fallen - Miami more than Dallas obviously, but still.

The Shaq trade ultimately won't be a success because they won't win a title, and probably won't get out of the west. I don't think they will.

That's why they got him, not to beat us. Underlying factor, sure, but same thing against other teams because they were getting taken advantage of inside too much by teams with significant interior games.

It is funny after that series vs Dallas... everyone said we were old. They were prophetic don't you think? I mean look at the Heat,Mavs,Suns, and Pistons.

Well every year it seems we go thru a slump of some kind and ppl are always quick to declare us as old and done. Then we go on a run after the AS break and from there it's either a 2nd round exit or another ring. Along the way we usually eliminate some team who's fans had declared us finished. I always enjoy that.
