game 7: SPURS VS. HORNETS..
I'm not getting excited until I see the score at the 4 minute mark of the 3rd quarter..
what's the strategy?..
IMO..
offensively- I don't wanna see too much iso post ups from Duncan where the double comes..it hasn't worked well on the road, because the shooters aren't making them..of course we'll test it a few times, but I don't wanna see too much of it..it's hurt us in the 3rd quarter..I liked the way Oberto-Duncan played together tonight..I like Tim at the high post too..I'd like to see Tim make some moves before the double if they're going to go to him in the same way they've been going to him in previous road games..
I don't wanna see Ginobili shoot too many 3's..as history has shown us, he doesn't usually have great games after coming off one like he did tonight..he needs to drive at the beginning to get in a rhythm..he needs to realize by now that nobody on the Hornets can consistently guard him..
Parker needs to play team ball, and not get too caught up in the PG matchup..too much overdribbling tonight, and too much driving into multiple defenders..Tony needs to be smart..
more Ime..ride him while he's still hot..he's been shooting great in this series, which is strange since he was shooting poorly from 3's for a long stretch..
more pick and rolls..it worked well tonight..
most importantly..just be aggressive, especially Duncan..
defensively- I don't know, because the Hornets role players play differently on the road..
as for tonight..Duncan on West worked very well..I'd go for that again..
trapping Paul worked very well, but the problem with trapping Paul at home is that it's going to give good looks to Peterson, Wright, Pargo and the rest of the role players on a swingaround..that's a gamble, but worth a try since it worked well tonight..

Spurs shall be victorious
Yeah, like I'm going to pick the Hornets, haha
I would be shocked if this is a blow-out, even with the other three games there, this is a different situation.
Yes, there have been quite a few G7 blow-outs in recent years, but this is still a different series. And, I was suprised by some of those routs.

we need duncan in every quarter closing it out not sitting on the bench
That's it, rght there. Parker and Gino cannot settle for as many contested jump shots. Last game in NO, Parker hit 1 big three pointer and then seemed to settle for jumpshots the rest of the game, including 3 more misses from 3. We need to pass the ball around until we find the open man. He is there, we just have to find him. In the 3rd qtr, if it even smells like the hornets are about to go on a run, we need to call a timeout to get our heads together.
Most importantly, we need 20pts min from each of our big 3.

it's all about the 3rd period. We HAVE to match their energy early and not let the crowd get into it. We have to play inside as much as possible but try to not overdribble into traffic (Tony this means you). QUick movement of the ball and some pick n rolls and we should take it. TD needs to play hard on West if he's hurting and make him earn every point.

I wouldn't risk very early foul trouble. Rather, start with Oberto/Thomas on West for the 1st 6 minutes, with orders to play very physical - we don't want West taking it easy early and getting nicely warmed up... Then, after assessing if the refs are calling candy-ass touch fouls, and how physically limited West is, move Duncan over. If Oberto/Thomas is doing a decent job on West, TD is a much better help defender (than Oberto/Thomas), and would always be at risk of a spate of soft calls...

This is a hell of a series. History is against us. We never won a series after losing the first two. We never won a series after trailing 3-2. We never won a Game 7 on the road. The home team won every game in a dramatic fashion. The team that won the third quarter won every game. But I believe. Records were meant to be broken. It all starts Monday night. Go Spurs!

We have to go out guns blazing....
Keys to the game...
Timmy must be game 7 Timmy.
Parker needs to get more penetration than your favorite pornstar.
Manu has to not be stupid...
Bruce needs to limit Peja and make him fold like he has done in the past in big game situations.
Pop needs to bring his A game.
We can't depend on the refs for anything.
Ime and company need to make their open shots.
We need to not giving Chandler easy baskets.
Oberto needs to get under West skin.
Paul has to be a scorer.
I dunno whatelse to say.

I can't help but be optimistic here. But so far, NOTHING has gone like I thought.
When was the last time we did not win one road game in ANY series? This just blows my mind. It just never happens.
So, either this game will FINALLY bring that one road win you can count on from this team, just in time to win the series. Or it will go to show that there is something very wrong here.
I just have to believe there is no way any team can stop these guys from getting a road win. I won't believe that until I see it.
In '05, we won the whole thing. Last year, again, just ripped through the gauntlet. In between, that was the last time we faced this kind of adversity, elimination. The Dallas series, we were down 3-1. Roared back to an OT game 7 when the odds finally caught us. That series prevented a 3-peat I think. And it prevented the back to back. And it ate at the players that whole next year until they redeemed themselves. THAT will be the topic of discussion I'm sure. Or maybe, non-discssion, but understood. LAst time we were stopped short of the repeat. You don't want that feeling again.
So what did we do the next time we faced elimination? Whipped them in game 6. If we gather that intensity and that urgency, the desperation that we've shown in game 6 and even in the loss to Dallas, I know we'll win this.
Go Spurs!
