After you guys won last year and in 05 management seemed content to either do nothing or make minor tweaks. Oberto and Udoka were your big additions after each of those runs. Making such minor changes this year will no doubt result in the Spurs really having a much smaller chance of going all the way next year because I don't see guys like Finley, Barry, and Horry being able to contribute even less. So if the Spurs winning it all again this year means they might do little to nothing in the offseason is it still worth it.


I would say yes, but as a Rockets fan I'm starved to win anything.

Well we have Splitter and Ian coming over as our bigs. Perhaps they can do a better job defending the Chandler play. Hell, right now I am happy with 4 championships in 9 years, but if we are fortunate to get 5 out of 10, I will not complain one ounce if we did nothing for the rest of my lifetime.

I've always said on this, regardless of how the playoffs go, we're going to make some changes this summer.

But they'll have to get younger/a few new players, because certain guys are subject to possibility and certainity of not being brought back in the way of retiring, or not re-signed or demoted to third string. All relating to age.

Plus the wing-player FA pool is solid this off-season.

And, who knows how much, but I think both Mahinmi/Splitter will get their chances, until the playoffs where I think things would change.

They'll also draft a wing-player, probably from over-seas, being Omri Cassipi of Israel (I think that's it), who they supposedly like a lot.

Me, as a quiet Spurs follower:

For sure - Finley and Horry will retire (hopefully F.O. job with Spurs for him). Maybe Fin signes for one more season for either Mavs, Suns, Cavs or Heat.

Probably (but hopefully not) - Barry and Thomas will retire. I hope that both will stick around for a year. Thomas as a spare big man and mentor on Manhimi + Barry as playing assistant coach.

Then, I'm sure, Damon will gone and JV will be also shipped out.

All that leaves 4-6 free slots on the roster. Manhimi is already in the roster.
With Splitter joining, we still have at least 3 free spots to be filled with younger and more athletc (and more hungry) players.

The only downside i see is the hatred from other teams "fans".....win or lose some roster moves probably need to be made to keep the team from getting too old.

There's no such thing as a downside to winning the chip.

Only downfall I could see for winning a championship is missing a day of (paid hourly) work to go to the parade...

incorrect, after 05 we signed finley and NVE hoping those 2 would catapult us. and i think it did in the regular season because we won 63 games. we came up short cause no one could guard dirk in teh semifinals.

spurs have kurt thomas' 9mil horry and finleys 3mil each coming off the books as well. so we have to retool our bench so dont worry about us.

if kurt still has something left in the tank, i wouldnt mind inviting him back

draft wisely and sign veterans wisely to fill those vacant spots....

ps. i dont recommend us drafting euros and stashing them if they panned out in euro, they might as well stay there due to $euro > $us dollar atm and the foreseeable future....

Wow we would be really spoilt if we suddenly decided that winning was a bad idea.
I don't think there is any way winning it all could have a downside.
I don't think the front office will decide to keep everyone because they won it last year.
Believe it or not they know more than we do, so if we are all certain that they are getting to old to contribute at this level then i'm fairly sure the front office does too.
With Tiago and Ian hopefully coming in to contribute next season, and either by draft or FA we get a good wing player then we'll be alright
