If horry doesnt want to retire, i actually wouldnt mind resigning him to the lowest possible contract. then he could remain with the team for our championship run+he could be a special assistant kind of like aaron mckie was for the lakers/or averyjohnson was for nellie. obviously he would want to play but i think at this point in his career he understand his limits. what do you guys think?

I wouldn't mind him back at all, and with more time to get in enough shape, he'd be more effective when given time. He can still be a factor with the right time range.

I think the significantly lesser time overall that he got (his daughter's illness, injury, then later injury again) effected his shot, compared to the last couple years.

I want to get younger.

how about as a player/coach? like avery johnson was before he became don nelsons assistant coach.

No, not even at minimum wage. It'snot the money, or even if he accepts a seat at the end of the bench just to talk to guys. The fact is, he would take a roster spot. His spot needs to get younger. We need guys we can actually use. A deeper, fresher bench.

I felt like Pop was playing him in the playoffs more out of respect than anything else. He has NOTHING left. He's been a great clutch player, but he needs to hang it up.

Horry wants to play another year


HOUSTON (AP)—San Antonio Spurs forward Robert Horry has decided against retirement and wants to return to the NBA for a 17th season, a Houston television station reported Friday.

Horry is set to become a free agent July 1.

“I don’t want to retire, especially after a year like I had last year,” Horry told KRIV-TV in Houston. “I know I could have had a better year. The year started off crazy for me with family issues and then it ended crazy for me getting hurt right at the end of the season.”

The defending champion Spurs lost in the Western Conference finals to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. Horry averaged 2.5 points a game last season, 1.5 during the playoffs.

Horry, known as “Big Shot Bob” for a resume filled with clutch baskets, turns 38 in August.

During the playoffs, Horry passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most playoff appearances in NBA history. Horry finished this season with 244 playoff game appearances; Abdul-Jabbar had 237. Horry has been in the playoffs in every one of his NBA seasons.

“I didn’t get a full season in like I wanted to see if it’s really time for me to retire. My last game I want to walk off the court sweating. My last game so far I walked off the court with a DNP (did not play) and I don’t want it to happen that way.”

Horry said he would like to return to the Spurs, where he spent the last five seasons. If that’s not possible, then he would like to go to the Houston Rockets, where he played his first four seasons.

“It’s not about breaking the bank,” Horry said. “I just want the minimum. I’ve made enough money. I just like being with the guys and competing and having fun.”

I am perfectly fine if he comes back to us, and I really understand why he wants to play another year in general. The season cycle not going as usual for him definitely effected him, as he had a lot less time to get in shape and play, than usual.

At least he won't go to the Celtics/Lakers if not us.

Thou he's not hitting big shots anymore, I think Horry is still one heck of a defensive player in limited minutes.

The Spurs need to get rid of Horry. He took up a playoff roster spot and for what? He was missing so badly he didn't even want to take those 3's anymore. I really thought he should've just retired after this season but now he says he wants to come back again. He needs to know when to call it quits.

I'm fine with that then. I wouldn't of minded him back, though, because he didn't have the kind of season cycle he's usually had since he's been around with us.

Thomas will probably be back, but does anybody think along with him and Mahinmi and Oberto, we need an agile big man with some NBA experience? Or will Mahinmi probably be okay as the mobile big man? I know Oberto has some mobility other center's don't have, but I don't know if that's significant enough.

I totally agree, his defense was a consistent factor in the playoffs. Really helped out.

I think his shot would of been better if he was in his usual fit-building season cycle. Which was cut significantly short from what it has been in the past, for a few reasons (in the beginning half of the season, and last 3-4 weeks of the season, into the early part of the Suns series).

I really wanted to see him back with the spurs. He had a really nice game in game 7 against the hornets, but obviously the rest of the playoffs, he was really struggling with his shot, but he does play disrupting D.

Now I guess it goes down to Houston, and if they don't want him, my man Horry might have laced them up for the last time.
