Point Guard problem

in the 2008 playoffs, it was obvious that parker ran out of gas in the WCF. He displayed his Finals MVP form during the suns series and the new orleans series before seeming running out of gas against the lakers. the fact that vaughn and damon were completely useless didnt help. We desperately need a back up pg, either via draft or FA or trades. a couple suggestions:

possible trade targets:

Memphis-they have 3 very talented PGs in conley, lowry, and crittenten. IMO critt would be great here because of his size and quickness. also he is a very talented offensive player.

sonics: they will also have 3 pgs, watson, luke, and probably bayless. bayless is obviously untouchable so are we interested in either luke or watson?

rockets: francis, alston, aaron brooks. i would only be interested in brooks here.

FA-duhon, he has been discussed many times and appears to be a great fit.

Draft-mario chamblers, probably an early 2nd round type player but was very important to kansas' road to the championship. should we trade up to get him because we arent going to use our 1st round pick on him.

Im don't mind Ridnour if the price is right, but he is a starter and would likely like a team where he'd play a big bulk of the minutes, and his price is a bit high for a back-up.
Don't mind Duhon, defensive minded player who has both started and come of the bench.
Crittenton i think would be nice, he's about 6'5 right and could slot into SG for some small shifts as well.

I like Duhon for the role..I also wouldn't mind Earl Watson..

I don't have anything bad to say about JV, but it doesn't take much to get a better player than him..

I am in for any of the Grizzles point guards given that they have small contracts. I like Luke but I can't believe the Spurs would be interested in investing more than 5 million on a backup point.

I would be ok with Chambers if he we nail him with our 2nd round pick. He might be a first round talent but I don't feel too good about using our pick on him if Rush or Batum are there for the taking.

I'd definitely be surprised if Rush is available and we don't take him..

how much do you guys think Duhon is going to get?..

I'd love any of:

- Duhon
- Lowry
- Watson
- Dooling

Backing up PG for us.

Crittenton I'm a big fan of, but don't know if he's ready to be a full-time back-up PG on a playoff team. In that case, Manu/Vaughn/Barry would be there as helpers and insurance. I love the general idea of getting him, I think he's a starting PG talent, too.

Not into Ridnour. I kind of doubt we can get Lowry.

I think Duhon will get 3-4 million per year. Might be able to get him, might not.

Duhon, plus one of the athletic/versatile wings out there would be really nice. Pietrus is going to command all or most of the MLE, John Salmons kind of money (who got most of the MLE in 06).

Chalmers in the 2nd round would be a terrific pick. My kind of player. I'd be surprised if he's still around, though.

I like Duhon or Pargo for backup PG.

Are there any decent prospects at our draft position?

Not really, Mario Chalmers is set to go a few picks before our 1st 2nd round pick, but i don't think he's worth taking at 26.
There are a few after our pick, i'd probably go with Anton Ponkrashov out of the remainig prospects, like i said in another thread he's a pretty intersting prospect with his size.

I'd say FA or trade would be our only realistic way to go for a backup point

yeah, that was the story from hoopsworld. they also stated in that same article that damon jones didnt work out for us this season. so i think that only reaffirms the credibility of hoopsworld.

It is crapsworld...

This is the same place that said that we signed Karl Malone, and that Mike Finley signed with the Heat.

I responded on on what he said. I guess he didn't like it that I told him that he is an idiot for thinking that we would want a 8 million dollar backup given that Damon Freaking Jones couldn't handle the backup point guard position this year.

Anyways I say there will be a sign and trade for Maggette to Toronto for Ford.

Agreed ^... both teams get what they need

Memphis would probably be the best target if we wanted to trade.
They have a logjam of point guards and seem to be in the habit of trading servicable players for spare parts.

We could prolly give the 46 pick and get Conley...;)

^^ Like I've told other ppl, the Grizzlies have become the joke of the NBA after the Gasol trade.

BTW, the Maggs for T.J. Ford works well for both teams. Just a concern for Ford's injured prone history.
