this is an unconfirmed source.
"James Posey: The second most popular free agent? He may be, everyone wants a bench defender who can shoot. Posey may have made his case in the NBA finals this year by his stellar play and hustle. Is he a starter? Maybe, but not for the whole season, he is best played off the bench and in crunch time.
Who is interested? Well the Lakers were a James Posey away from winning the championship. They only have a mid-level exception to offer though, will 3 years 20 million be enough? It may be a little larger than that. (Note that teams over the cap can use that mid-level and extend a long term deal using yearly increases that would be about a million dollar a year raise each year.) Posey's agent says that Boston and San Antonio are the finalists, but they both are in the same situation as the Lakers. Posey has to be ready to settle down, and stop moving around. Boston is where he wants to be, but they have to lock him up."

Re: Are we going after Posey as well?
I love Posey
But, I think we need more out of the big wing, offensively, that we get - Posey's the SF version of Horry (in terms of what they can do and intangibles), when Horry was some younger. Which is of course great, but for the most part he's still just a 3PT shooter and relatively solid passer, offensively.
Maggette should be and still is the priority.
JR Smith I am not expecting to be a real option because he's quite young, and will want money and will still be on a competitive team in Denver. He'll get the most money from Denver, and they want to keep him, I think.
I like a bunch of the 2nd-tier FA wings... whom, while not as good as Maggette/Smith offensively, can do notably more than just shoot. Which I'd prefer to get one of them, if we can't get Maggette, plus they'd be cheaper than Posey (in the case of most of the MLE for 4-5 years).
I definitely wouldn't mind if we got Posey. Would be a smart passing, more athletic, good, clutch 3PT shooter added on the wing - but I'd still wonder to an extent, about our offensive depth, in ability. I just think we should look at more creative guys over Posey (while still considering him).
I think Boston ultimately will retain Posey, and I'm leaning towards us getting Maggette.

Posey is dirty and for that reason, he should sign. j/k... I could imagin all the threads made about the Spurs if we would sign him.
I think he is going to stay with Boston. It doesn't make sense for him to leave a good situation.

Posey's okay, but we need someone who wouldn't rely on Tim, Tony or Manu to create their opportunities for them. We've got enough guys who can only camp out behind the 3 point line.

Exactly... that is what I am really hoping to get Maggette. He is a guy who can just live off the line when we can't guy a bucket.

Posey, Udoka and Bowen would all imitate each other's abilities far too much. If Maggette was off the market I wouldn't complain about the signing. I'd still worry about where points from the wings are going to come from.
Posey is a better fit personality wise than someone like Jr Smith. I'd go with Smith because he'd fill a hole with this team.

Yeah.. we should really go after more diverse offensive wing-men.
