He is a relatively clutch shooter, naturally to a lesser extent in the NBA because of his oppurtunity situation.

He's young

well until Manu gets healthy it might see some extended minutes but otherwise he'll be at the end of that guard rotation.

Does he have a guaranteed contract or is he fighting for a roster spot like the other unguaranteeds?

I was wondering where he would land. No big loss for the Hawks. He was given chances and never took advantage of it.

Well its seeming more and more likely that we won't sign Hill this year.

"Chronic ankle injury" is actually code for "Mike Woodson hated him and wouldn't play him." Woodson and Stoudamire had a a disagreement for the past three years, and thus he was only played on as as needed basis, with little consistency.

When he was given consistent minutes (rarely), he would improve his game. When he wasn't (usually), he'd be hit or miss. With the Spurs tendency to play the bench throughout the season, as opposed to at the whimsy of a moody man, Salim might prove to be a good pickup. Or he might not; basing anything on his time with the Hawks is impossible, because of the disagreement between the two.

He can slash, but usually wasn't in the position to do so with the Hawks due to personnel when he was on the court. He's a streaky shooter, but with more use might be able to control that better. If he feels wanted, he's great; if he feels ignored (which was how he was treated in ATL), he gets petulant. His defense wasn't always a strong point, but he showed significant improvement (when he was allowed to) this past season. Steve Smith (now a color guy for the Hawks TV) loves him, and both he and Sekou Smith (the beat writer) both said he was always first in and last out for practices.

As such, if you bother to ask any Hawks fans (like myself), you'll either get a "good luck and good riddance" or a "might have found a diamond in the rough." I'm in the small camp that thinks he might potentially be MIP. So good luck, and hope he does as well as I think he might.

I don't think any of us are expecting much from him, at least I'm not..I could see him being an 11th or 12th man, and playing in specific circumstances, like when we need offense badly, or if we need a 3-point shot..

if he's good, then it's a great find..if he's bad, then he won't play and it'll be irrelevant..

IIRC, teams can only send players to the D-league in their first 2 years, and Salim's already been in the league for 3.

I won't deny he probably could have used the experience some, but the Hawks are probably the worst team in the league about using the NBDL.

He can still go to d-league if he doesn't make the roster.

Well I don't have high hopes for him but he is known as a shooter. Hopefully he can provide half of what Barry gave us, providing that he makes the roster.

It's a decent signing for the Spurs. Between Vaughn, Hill and Stoudamire backing up TP. Who will come out on top as the secondary backup to TP?

I like this signing actually. This guy seems to be committed as he knows that this could be his last chance in the league. Salim's shooting touch and form are just excellent, even if this didnt come out as much in Atlanta.
The more I think about it the more this guy seems like another version of Jannero Pargo, not just in playing style but in the way his career is progressing. IIRC Pargo was seen as a talented but unfullfilled player on the lakers and chicago for the number of years, and his flashes of freakish scoring kept him in the league.
I'm not saying that Salim will become Jannero, but he is an obviously gifted scorer who is coming from a team that utilised him poorly. I'm eager to see if Salim can bring some firepower to our bench. In his short NBA career he has proven to be able to put points on the board.
