george hill thoughts

Post#1 » by coy01 » Sun Nov 9, 2008 4:14 am

for the most part, he has impressed me. right now his shot isn't falling, but if you watch him play his moves and drives to the basket are so smooth. he has a quick first step and his arms sure look damn long. his defense hasn't been meeting up with the scouting reports yet i think, it looks like he lays off his man too much not being aggresive and just relying on his length, but i deffinately like what i'm seeing.

I'm very suprised by Hill. I saw a 2 guard averaging 20+ in college and thought that we were going to get a scorer, I was very pleased to find our how strong he was defensivly, meaning he leap-frogged Vaughn in the rotation.
Hopefully he can learn to score at this level to.
I'm not to upset with the pick anymore.

Hopefully his cast comes off soon since I'm sure it's affecting his shooting stroke.

I really like him, good size, toughness, and am pretty impressed with his defense

He's an absolute freak at times defensively. His long arms, effort and positioning make him a tough matchup for just about anyone. He's already heavily outplayed Vaughn at that end, and Vaughn is no slouch himself.

Offensively I like what he's attempting to do with the pace of the game. He runs the offense nicely and keeps people involved. His passing and shooting should improve with the increased playing time he will receive during Parker's absense.

He's really stood out with his toughness and rebounding. This team becomes a solid rebounding team when Hill is on the floor. If we'd kept Hairston we'd have a strong rebounding backcourt option to make up for our disgraceful frontcourt.

He has the physical attributes to be a killer defender but he gets lost on rotations. Most of the scrubs Quinns points came off from Hill and his late rotation.

adjusting to the NBA pace is all he needs, generally no college graduate makes a huge defensive impact right away.
That block he had against Miami was great though, just a sign of what we can expect.

Since nobody made a Rockets game thread...

Hill with 17pts, 5 asst and 6 rebs (on 8-13 shooting). NICE!!!!

Side Note: Ime doing his best Bowen impression in the starting lineup, the donut! in the rebounding dept too! He's out-Bowen'ng Bowen!

there's no denying he's tough, but he has too much confidence..he drives too much and shoots off the dribble too much..his offensive game isn't nearly good enough to pull it off..

hopefully he starts giving us anything though, because I've loved the way Bruce has played off the bench..

well he just dropped 20 pts on the Nuggets, although the Spurs lost. He is going to be a great player to have. He could eventually turn into a starter (though not necessarily at PG) or could turn into a great sixth man when Parker returns.

I am kinda surprise that he has been a contributor. I have been disappointed that he has not been a real efficient scorer as of late.

Last game against the Jazz...

Hill 22 minutes 7 for 11 2-2 3pfg 3 assists 2 steals 23 points

NICE!

Without a doubt, the STEAL of the the DRAFT.

Of course... the biggest steal was Anthony Morrow of the Warriors. Undrafted and scores 37 points!

I'm surprised we didn't pick him up (or at least look at him) considering his high percentage shooting in college. Appears the league was hoodwinked when it was reported that he signed up for a team in the Ukraine.

Who are your starters when Parker and Manu come back? Because its seems that Hill and Mason can be scorers for you guys off the bench. The Parker and Manu injuries may not be that bad for you guys since Hill received an early start at playing time and is looking like he will be in the rotation.

Parker obviously starts and I'd assume Manu does too. Hill and Mason will make for a good tandem coming off the bench. It will really help the team to have Mason out there to help Hill with the PG duties in the event Hill reverts back to playing like a rookie PG.

I'd also expect to see Mason and Manu share a lot of court time together, especially when Tim & Tony are getting rest. Pop tends to rest Tim & Tony at the same time so that he can maximize the amount of time they're on the court together and last year it was all up to Manu when those two were out. Putting Mason out there with Manu is going to make his life a lot easier. You'll have two guys who can score from anywhere on the court and create shots for others.

And you're right that Hill and Mason getting to play big minutes early in the season will end up benefitting the Spurs late in the season.

I see Mason and Parker stating. Mason has the 3pt range and the slashing abilty which works well with Parker. Manu gets the greenlight more when he's the 6th man and knows he's the first scoring option.

Welcome to the board DC...

I think Parker and Mason have to start. They will balance each other.

I'm assuming Manu will be looking to defend his 6th man title, so he's coming off the bench.
With Mason we have a solid starter anyway, not like when we were playing Fin last year and a decent game from him was like winning the lottery.

Like said, Mason and Parker will probably be the starters, eventually...

Out of a sudden our bench and depth is going to be legit, compared to how it was looking 2-3 months ago
