What will it take to beat the LAkers in a series

Considering the Lakes will probably have HCA it seems to me we need: (1-4 are jokes, bad ones in fact)

1. Stern to recind the Gasol trade
2. Memphis to trade Rudy Gay to us. (that was a horrible trade by houston/vangundy BTW)
3. Finley to play at an allstar level again
4. Get Jax back!!!!!!
5. A power forward who can score like: (every one is a stretch) but this i believe is our biggest hope Kurt Thomas Shaq D gave us just enough to beat the Suns.
a. Wilcox (isn't this the same team that traded Thomas' expiring to us last year?) Problem is in order to trade back 6 mil in expiring Ian must be a part of it. And the hope he may develop into a player give OKC a reason to do it. I can live with no Ian especially if we can sign this guy.

b. Harrington (this is one of the types we need)
c. Channing Frye (makes nooooo sense)
d. Songalia (Washington is in disarray)

6. Injury

The Lakers are the best at shutting down Parker with a zone or a long guy like Odom or the kid from UCLA. That limits our offense to Manu one on one and Tim one on one or Mason or Bonner for 3 which is good enough to beat everyone else but Bynum is Tim's toughest matchup.

We can beat LA, but it's a long, long shot. Three things that absolutely MUST HAPPEN for us to win.
1. Manu must be the SUPER MANU. He has to be attacking the rim relentlessly, drawing fouls on the opposing bigs and only occasionally resorting to his 3-ball. It looks like he's getting back to that style of play lately, which is a great sign.
2. Our shooters must make their open shots! The Lakers' D is good, but it's not great. We had a lot of wide-open 3's in that game in LA, we just didn't knock them down. Mason, Bonner, Finley, etc. must have the confidence to knock those shots down, even in their building, because the opportunities will definitely be there.
3. Defense. Getting back to old school Spurs defense, which crisp rotations and constant shot-challenging, will be key. It also helps if we can frustrate them into silly fouls and T's.

If all three of these occur, we have a shot at beating them.

1. The big 3 to play well.

2. Someone other than the big 3 play well for 4 - 7 games.

3. Kobe to jack up 30+ shots per game while his teammates stand around.

Some of the role players will have to nut up and play well. I believe Mason and Hill can do this, both seem quite poised and naturally calm players. The idea of Bonner on the court during the waning moments of a close playoff game is truely frightening for me.

I don't think we'll have to worry about Ginobili showing up or not, he's been looking great these past few games and we have plenty of bench depth to control his minutes.

As of right now we're a long shot against LA, but if a decent trade is swung my hopes may rise.

I'm thinking the trigger doesn't get pulled on a trade by the deadline - at least not one that makes a big difference to our team.

I'd love to be proven wrong though.

For the Spurs they need to pull the trigger on a couple of deals. They need a fresh SF and a better C to ake some pressure off TD defensively.

They don't need anything. They have to play championship defense during all 48 minutes. If they do so, Kobe will be frustated at some point. When Duncan and co play ultimate defense, they can win against anyone.
Oh and a fresh and healthy Manu could help too ^^

Manu is the key in any series, particularly against the Lakers. If he plays out of his mind come playoff time, anything is possible.

We need to get a big man in the paint to face Gasol,Bynum, and Odom. We just get killed on the boards.

It would also be nice for Manu to be healthy and bring his A game when facing the Lakers.

He's only got a Grade II MCL sprain. Prognosis for that is different than a dislocated kneecap.

Que Schwarzenegger.

The Lakeshow have made a move. Vlad Rad to the Bobcats for Ammo and Shannon Brown. The Spurs need to make a good move or two here.

Yeah - a good move. Not crap for crap like the Lakers and Bobcats did.

I really have a horrible feeling that the lakers will bring out the best of Adam Morrison, i can see him becoming quite a servicable player for them.
A tweener kind of guy who can come and hit the open J. I know he has had a rough time of it thus far, but he has been injured and was playing for the Bobcats where we would have recieved a fair deal of defensive attention as a rookie esp after his 28 points a game (i think) in college the previous year.

I have a nasty feeling that under Jackson and with Kobe, Odom, Fisher etc attracting attention that he'll just have that extra time and his jumpshot will start to fall.

Brad Miller and Salmons would be a huge step in the championship direction

I'd rather have Brad take a big shot than Bonner and I'd rather have Brad guasrding Bynam/Gasol than Bonner.

Salmons alone may be enough to get us past the lakers .. isn't he averaging 19 and 5?
In with Salmons
Out with Finley
