We almost had Camby

Looks like RC almost pulled a miracle off yesterday. There was a deal pretty much agreed to, but Donald Sterling nixed it.

I have no idea who was supposed to go the other way, but I'm gonna look into it. If I find anything I'll update the thread. Camby might not have been ideal, because he doesn't spread the floor for Tim in the way that a guy in the mold of Bonner/Rasheed would, but he really would have allowed Tim to take it easier on D and focus on offense. We've all been impressed by Bonner this year, but we all saw Antonio Mcdyess take it to him yesterday. Your thoughts?

That's too much of a tease for me to take. I'd rather have just not known.

as you can see it's on the wiretap now. It would have been Oberto, Bowen and Hill going to the Clippers. As much as I wanted a starting center, i also didnt want to see JV playing our backup point again. im pretty torn

Still a no brainer in my book. Starting C > Backup PG. Being able to put Camby out there for 30 minutes would more than make up for having to deal with Jacque Vaughn out there for 12.

Yeah, I heard that on the radio a couple of hours after the deadline. That's the guy I was saying we should go for the whole time. VC and RJ were smokescreens. Sheed might have been a good fit, but considering his ability to play his role and do it well, rebound and contest shots, and a nice jumper, I always thought Camby shouldve been our number 1 target. At his price it would't cost us as much as Sheed to.

Oh well... we move on.

I don't think this was as close to happening as the media wants you to believe. The Cavs GM said on the radio that the Clippers told him Camby was an untouchable at this point in time. Most of these media clowns don't have inside sources, they just perpetuate bs rumors they see on the internet. One idiot at this website talks to another idiot at another website or newspaper and then they speculate about things they don't know. Then they use the term "people with knowledge of the situation" like they have some kind of deep throat informant. The negotiation talk between GM's so often is just a very quick conversation because certain players just aren't available. But the media gets us to visit their websites by convincing us "this deal is about to happen" or "these talks are heating up" or "this deal fell apart at the last moment".

Don't believe the hype.

I guess I'm a bit dissappointed that this trade didn't go down. Camby is not without his flaws as a player though. The most noteable for regarding the Spurs, is that he hasn't played in a highly disciplined system for quite a long time. How would his ego have reacted when Pop nixed his attempts at running fast breaks and running the offense through the high post?
I'm also pretty glad we managed to keep George Hill. We're really needing him now, moreso than ever, as Parker's defense has been simply atrocious lately.

Obviously a moot point now, but I don't think Camby would have presented any ego problems. Camby is a guy who is perfectly content to just rebound and play defense. Even though Denver was a fast breaking team Camby wasn't out running the break. Most of the time AI or Carmelo would have jacked up a shot before Camby even made it to half court.

Looked at the story. There were no real details. Think this was just a writer making something up.

You're a bit off there. Camby would try to run the fastbreak himself if he had the ball.

Camby was nick named "Mr. Touches" because he would whine about his touches. He would jack up his awful jump shot at some bad times, when the team needed a score, and he would try to drive to the rim like a PG. Usually that would result in a charge or turnover. Still he would keep trying.

As for rebounding, Camby would be pushing his own team mates out of the way to grab rebounds. His own team mates would get more abuse from him then the opponent. And when it came to defense, forget about it. He's more interested in helping to get blocks, for stats, instead of staying with his man.

His is a huge ego guy and his contract has incentives. He puts up stats, he gets paid more.

Furthermore, the last half of the season with Denver, the team was better with him off the floor. Maybe he would have made a 180 going from the bottom to the Spurs, but I think you guys should be glad. I had been hoping the Spurs got him, just for the lawlz of watching Duncan get fouled by his own team mate, then trying to figure out who to whine too, since the refs couldn't do whistle that.

As a Clippers fan, I wouldn't mind too much if these 2 teams reopened trade talks in the offseason, since I really like Hill.

I would propose:

Camby for Bowen/Oberto/Hill/'11 First
