Idea to Improve

Post#1 » by Commodor » Wed Apr 22, 2009 1:55 am

So assuming that you guys cant grab Camby, what would you think of picking up Rasheed Wallace, assuming he's relatively cheap. Gives you a solid guy next to Duncan and he can score from outside. I know he's got a crappy attitude and hasnt shown much effort this year, but think if Popp can whip him in shape and he accepts his role as the 4th. Would be a very potent combo with Duncan I think. Wouldnt have a problem with defensive mind set and would be an upgrade in pretty much every category over the centers you have now.

Parker
Mason
Ginobli
Duncan
Sheed

I see another ring if the effort is put in.

This has been discussed earlier in the season and I personally was a fan of the idea.

Duncan's had to play a ton of center this year and its taken a toll on his body which has effected our overall play as a team. Sheed's exactly what we need in a center; he can space the floor to give our big three room to operate, he defend centers, he can rebound and he's a good help defender.

The best way for us to improve is to stay healthy. If we're healthy, we're a threat for the title.

I don't know about Sheed. I think he's done and the last thing we need is another elderly person.

Well actually Outlaw isn't a free agent until 2010, but in 2010 I think we'd have a good chance of stealing him away from the Blazers if we want to by offering him something around the MLE. Portland going to have to resign Roy and Aldridge that summer so they're not going to have a lot of extra money to resign their other free agents, those being Outlaw, Blake, Przybilla and Rodriguez. So I would guess they're only going to be able to keep 2 of those guys and I would guess they're going to want to keep Blake and Przybilla simply becuase they're loaded at the wing spots with Batum, Webster and Fernandez so they can afford to lose Outlaw.

Itll be a better team than what we have here, but is it on the level of Boston, Cavs, or Lakers? I don't think it is.

I really don't like a perimeter lineup of Parker, Mason, and Manu. Mason has been a nice surprise, but on that lineup, we'll have to force him be our Bruce Bowen. Not gonna happen. Mason at this point is a 3 point shooter and not much else. From our current team, if we're gonna start Manu, I think Ime Udoka is the best fit in the starting lineup. Not Bowen, Finley, or Mason...

a) *Sign Artest for MLE and McDyess for veteran exception.
b)*Trade Bonner&Oberto expirings for Nocioni or Salmons and resign Gooden (but not Gooden4life).
c)*Sign Linas Kleiza (RFA),resign Gooden and sign Dyess or Sheed Wallace.

Word is that Sheed is planning to retire, so I guess he's not an option any more.

I do like the idea of Sheed playing with the Spurs. If we sign him, it means Gooden is gone.

The more I think of Sheed in San Antonio, the more I wonder if it's gonna be a good fit.

Sheed in our offense will probably become Robert Horry. Meaning most of the time, he'll become a spotup shooter at the 3 point line. A lot of times the past couple of season, the Spurs are forced to play small ball and we end up with Tim Duncan at Center and guys like Finley or Udoka playing PF in a very weak rebounding team. It's not like sheed will have better success againts a small team. And you know Pop have a tendency of going small when the opponent goes small. Sheed will be the 4th option on this team.

The plus side on sheed is that he gives us a legit post option now. I just don't know how many touches he's gonna get in the post.

Right now, I sure as hell hope we get Marion instead of sheed. I know it's unlikely, but hey. Marion's a guy that can help us play traditional or even small. He can be our defensive stopper. And he's a player that don't really need any plays called and could still get 15 points.

Marion is more of an attention whore than Sheed. He actually thinks he is better than he is and add to the fact that he sucks animal parts in the half court make me pass on him.

I'm a huge Gooden guy, given proper playtime, I can definitely see him benefiting this team in many ways.

The players that I wouldn't mind offloading are as follows:

Bonner - What he brings to the table, we don't need. He's a big man shooter, we need someone who can bang low and help Duncan in the paint on the offensive and defensive ends of the court. I wouldn't mind seeing us dominate the boards and have another post scoring option.

Mason - Aside from Parker and Manu, we have no perimeter player who can create their own shot. I like Masons shooting, but I'm not a huge fan of players who camp the 3pt line.

Oberto - Almost forgot he was on the team.

Udoka - (See Mason), plus his defense IMO is not as good as advertised.

Vaughn - (See Oberto), I swear at the TV every time he touches the ball. Possibly the most irrelevant player in the NBA.

Other players like Kurt, Bowen and Finley I feel are definitely expendable, but they still have something to offer the team (moreso Kurt and Finley than Bowen). Bowen has been very loyal to the team, and I'd like to see us keep him around if not as a player then in the FO.

And, who do I have to pay around here to have a healthy Manu???
