Trading Ginobli
There has been a lot of talk about trading Manu in other trade threads. I was wondering how may people think he should be traded and what you think the spurs should get in return. I know there is a trade thread with 50 responses, but this just dealing with Ginobli.
Do you think we can trade manu/oberto/bowen and get Shaq and a first rounder from Phoenix this year? The money works, and we could ride shaq for a year and then have 20 mill in cap room next year to sign someone like Bosh or a different young big.

Trading Ginobili is like asking me to chop off an arm. Can't do it. Plus his value would be at an all time low due to the injuries, thus our return wouldn't be worth the bother.
No to trading Ginobili. And I don't think Shaq will solve our problems.

We wouldn't get 60 cents on the dollar. Fact is that he is worth more to us than other teams. It is also doubtful that Kerr would trade with us again.

Yes, that trade is possible. But SAS would be completely moronic to make that trade. A Shaq-Duncan starting lineup would not work - there is not enough mobility between the two of them. It doesn't get SAS a championship shot, it gains SAS nothing in 2010 free agency. In fact, it may give away a championship shot - if Gino comes back healthy he will be a key piece in any shot next year...

This pretty much sums it up, right now his value is low. I think we're better off trying to improve our supporting cast rather than breaking up the big 3.

Re: Trading Ginobli
Ginobili only gets traded for a scoring wing option. Our offence had enough problems with Manu in the side. Replacing him with an aging center and having Parker as our only guy in the backcourt that can consistantly create shots for himself just don't work.

Re: Trading Ginobli
would the spurs consider tmac?
problem is that he wont be back until jan./feb. of '10
he could be that scoring wing and also create for others, allowing parker
to focus on offense and getting his points. and if it doesnt work out, his contract expires in a year.
would sa do tmac + filler for manu + oberto + filler (bowen)??

T Mac? No way, no point getting him. He's done.

You're right he's more valuable to you then to other teams due to his age and injuries. The only thing you could probably get back for him in return is another aging and/or injury prone star.
But what does his contract look like?

Next year will be contract year for a lot of our players, including GIno. I'm hoping that's added incentive for our guys to play better.

IIRC, he has one year left on a $50M contract.

Re: Trading Ginobli
Going back to tghe T-Mac thing. I would be really close to pulling the trigger on that trade if McGrady didn't have his injury concerns.
I personally don't buy into the whole he's done argument. Before he was injured he regularly entered into the Who is the Best Player Today? conversations. Unfortunatly he went and got himself a back injury that has been troubling him ever since.
A trade with Manu is pretty remote, he's been a major part of San Antonio for many years now and he'll most likely retire in Black and Silver out of player loyalty, unless some dumb GM offers us Brandon Roy or someone like that.

Cant imagine Manu getting traded ... Pop is loyal to a fault.
The only way I see it happening is a mid-season trade for Vince after it is determined that Manu is done, but also that the Nets are done, and no one has made a better offer for Vince except for Cleve and NJ wants to see VC out of the east.

This statement, for me, sums up the Spurs "predicament" at the moment. Sure, we've won 4 titles, for which I'm eternally grateful, but the reason we still have guys like Fin and Vaughn on our roster is this habit that Pop has to stand pat.

No way to trading Ginobili. If we go that route we should trade Duncan, build around Parker, and admit we are in all out rebuilding mode.
Since there is no way the FO will trade Duncan because of what he's meant to the franchise, we may as well keep our core together while trying to add young pieces here and there. We probably don't win another title in the Duncan era, but we'll still be a top team the West. Not that bad considering we've already gotten 4 titles out of Duncan.

Trade Manu and we're saying goodbye to our titles hopes. I don't know about you guys, but i'm not ready to do that. We need some tweaks, but it's not like the windows has totally closed on us.

I agree that the spurs still have something left in the tank. I also think the point about Pops loyalty is absolutely spot on. I think the spurs have two more years of very serious championship consideration, but there does need to be some house cleaning this off season. I could never stand to see Duncan in another uniform, and I would like to see Ginobli retire a spur as well. I just really hope we finagle a decent draft, anything in the first round. I know the T Wolves are desperate to get some help and give up some picks, if we could grab 18 it would be nice.

If Manu can't play any more then he becomes a contract
If he can play we are contenders.
This years title is a title but its a cheap one. How the last two champs were crippled by major injuries.
Out of our 4 the last one was an easy one as well.

Why not trade Ginobili for Bosh right now? You'd probably have to throw in Oberto and some filler (pick?) to make the salaries match, but I'm sure Bosh would love to play (and stay) in his home state, especially when we would be the only team able to offer him a sixth year on a new 2010 contract.
The question is, do you think the raptors would trade for someone 6 years older? Maybe if Manu was resigned for three more years...
