The San Antonio Spurs are nearing completion on a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks for forward Richard Jefferson(notes), league executives told Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday.

The proposed deal would have the Spurs send veterans Bruce Bowen(notes), Kurt Thomas(notes) and Fabricio Oberto(notes) to the Bucks, who are looking to shed the remaining two years, $29.2 million on Jefferson’s contract for the Spurs’ expiring contracts. The contracts of Bowen and Oberto are only partially guaranteed for a total of $3.9 million for next season.

I really like it for the Spurs. Jefferson can still play and a line up with Duncan/Parker/Jefferson/Ginobili is pretty sick.

I like the fact that we get younger... Bucks like it because they save some money and can now be a little bit more interested in signing Sessions who is very underrated.

Awesome trade for us. Get a skilled scoring wingman, makes the Spurs have a big 4. Parker, Manu, Jefferson and Duncan. Damn gonna be a nice core, we need some big men to compliment Duncan now though, gonna be crucial.

I think this is a great trade for the Spurs....more offensive firepower around Duncan and although RJ is overpaid the Spurs must go all in in Duncans final great years to win another chip or two.
Parker-Manu-RJ-TD that is really nice 4...maybe the best in the L when everyone is healthy
congrats Spurs fans

I have a feeling all three (or at least two) will get bought out and return to the Spurs.

There's no need to buy out Bowen and Oberto....they are on unguaranteed contracts. Therefore all that's necessary is to waive them.

The Bucks need help at power forward, and Kurt Thomas would be an adequate stop gap, so I don't know why he'd be bought out either. It doesn't make sense to pay a guy 3 million to play on an opposing team when he can help your cause. The biggest reason for keeping Thomas from a Bucks' fan perspective is that he might prevent the team from reaching on one of the sucky frontcourt players in this draft like Jordan Hill.

Wow guys congrats! I always have respect for the Spurs organization. I love Pop too. Parker, Gino, RJ, TD, Center spot.

Of course it's a good trade for the Spurs. Salary dump clearly, it appears some posters are looking at the trade player skill for player skill.

Not as good as the Lakers rape of MEM, but pretty damn' rapish indeed. Actually Marc Gasol can play, and JCritt is a work in progress, could be something eventually.

Awesome news for you guys. RJ will add some flair and athleticism to your squad. Can't hurt having another 20 ppg who gets to line frequently

Well it is a step in the right direction... we have been old as dirt recently and then gimpy. I am glad to see that he has been an iron horse the past two season with the Bucks by playing 80 plus games.

it seem like the spurs dont have any fans on here, most of the posts are congrats from fans of other teams. With that being said congrats great trade for the spurs ok for the bucks. That big 4 is pretty sweet spurs need health and a big man to put aside duncan (clippers seem to have an abudance camby would be perfect) the bucks save some money to possibly sign sessions and create room for 2010 but lets face it 2010 will be competive and no one is going to MIL that would be a hard sell even if there team was decent. So idk MIL is one of those franchise that must succeed thru the draft and trades while snagging a free agent here and there by overpaying them when there market value is low. MIL cannot win a bidding war when the player salary is already known hence a max player or say joe johnson 15mil, amare 16mil when players salaries are known they go to either good teams hometown teams are cities that are highly marketable.

You guys made a nice move. Jefferson is a good scorer who should work well with Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker. What you guys need to do now is add some young role players and maybe add some depth for possible injury problems. I can't help but feel as if you guys should move up in the draft and snatch a young big to go with Duncan.

 Spurs front office rocks!! I have had little faith in them lately but this totally changes things. Now we aren't concerned about small forward in the draft or free agency we can look at the front court situation. With Oberto and Thomas gone we definitely have more change coming as of right now on the books it is
PG: Parker/Hill
SG: Mason/Ginobli
SF: Jefferson
PF: Duncan/ Mahinmi
C: Bonner

Finally some change!!! Freaking Happy Day!!! Obviously we are lacking front court depth but it is obvious Pop has a plan, time to pull off Three Titles in a row and send Duncan off into the sunset!!

As Bucks fans we're happy about the trade too. I think Jefferson will be great on the Spurs. As the 3rd or even 4th option he will have a lot of room to work. He is a great slasher and has a pretty impressive jumpshot (can extend all the way out to the three point line with relative ease). He is a solid defender at the two and the three which is also nice. Only problem us Bucks fans really had with him was his contract but since you guys are looking for a few more title runs it seems, that shouldn't be too much of an issue.
