If he ever does come over, it might be too late.

He was the 28th pick in the draft and it was a risky pick we all knew that. How could one draft pick possibly cost us a chance at more rings?

Honestly, I'm no longer hoping for Splitter to be Duncan's frontcourt partner. I'm simply hoping that when Duncan retires in 2 years, Splitter will be there to replace him. Unless we score big in FA, I think we have a decent team here in SA post Duncan. Parker and Hill in the backcourt. Jefferson will still be 31. Blair should be ready for bigger minutes by then. There's a huge void at Center and if Splitter can come in and fill that void, I'm more than satisfied.
My worry is that he never comes here cause I think he's bound by rookie contracts and being taken so late in the draft means he's getting like 4 mil in 4 year type contract. I'm not sure once a guy gets older and have more responsibilities in his life, he'll accept such little money considering he could get like 5-6 times that in Europe.

I also don't think Splitter will come soon considering the amount of money he's making in Europe. It looks like he might come later in his career (like Oberto, Scola, David Andersen in Houston, etc.) when he doesn't see any challenge in the European game anymore and is willing to play for less money. My sincere hope is we get a player who was never drafted and IMO is better than Splitter - Ioannis Bourousis.

It would be great to get Splitter next year but honestly he was a 28th pick. What do you expect at that spot. You just pick the best player on the board and hope you get lucky. I consider him a bonus. We are fortunate we got a lot of front court help this year. We don't have to rely on Mahimni or Splitter to save the day.
One thing please do not trade his rights away to a division rival for crap or cap relief.

He'll be here next year as next summer his contract ends and the Spurs can pay him any amount of money as the rookie cap limit is lifted after three years.
Basically, the Spurs and Splitter played this perfectly. He gets his money, the Spurs have him improve over seas.

Exactly, now lets just hope it doesn't turn into a Scola situation and we actually pay him what he's worth and not trade him to a team in our division.

Who is to say he is a difference maker?
He is a good player, but if we are not healthy... we will not win.
