I was looking at the teams, I feel that a trade of RJ and Blair for Carney and Brand would really make the Spurs look more like the dominant Spurs the NBA is used to.
The lineup would probably look something like
Duncan
Brand
Bogans
Finley
Parker
Ginobili 6th man
Bonner, Hill and Carney as bench players.
Carney has good upside, spurs tend to develop their talent at the highest level, so he would have a good shot at reaching his ceiling here rather than in the shadows of all the young wings in philly.
Additionally, Philly would get a player that is more useable because of their uptempo offense. Iggy can get away with playing the 4 with RJ at the 3 when they want to go small, and then speights will be in when they want to go taller.
figure they would wind up with
Dalembert
Speights
Iggy
RJ
AI
Bench: Lou, Blair, Young

Re: Spurs should swap RJ for Brand
Brand is not a bad idea, as he actually is playing good bball lately.
But man, why would we give up Blair for him? Sixers'd extatic with any offer for Brand and his awful contract. So big nono with blair.

Terrible just terrible...Why the hell would we trade a 29 year old swingman whom we just acquired in a steal from for an injury prone big who hasn't been himself in nearly three years? I wouldn't mind swapping Ginobili for say Boozer, but our invaluable in-his-prime SF? Hell no...

Terrible for us for a few reasons. He's a bad fit, he's injury prone and lets not forget his atrocious contract. Also why would we give up Blair in this deal? He;s got a lot more upside than Carney.

Re: Spurs should swap RJ for Brand
RJ really does not look like a fit, bad shooter, more scorer/slasher, which is more of parkers job. RJ also lacks a lot of defense. He is a great scorer no doubt, but the spurs are a half court team, and Brand would give two half court bigs who would work well with each other and both play D.
Blair is great, but so was malik rose...until he got paid. Carney is an athletic wing who can not score anywhere near as easily as RJ, his defense i am not familiar with, but I know he has tremendous potential just a few years ago. Spurs could get a lot out of him, especially with the influence of a Finley. RJ is a good player, but Brand, when healthy, is an allstar.

Brand still has 4 yrs left on his contract. Can't see how the spurs could drop that kind of money on anything outside a superstar. Brand is great when healthy but has been injury prone. I stay stick with RJ and let him come into the fold. Give it a chance to work before you pull the plug.

Re: Spurs should swap RJ for Brand
Trading RJ for Brand straight up would make the Spurs a better team but Brand has 2 extra years on his contract. I would want the Spurs to make the trade because Duncan needs more help upfront. McDeyss really aged over the summer and he is now a below average player. He tries but he's just not good anymore.
The Spurs can't win with the bigs they have now because they don't have enough against Boston, Orlando, and the Lakers. The Spurs have Duncan but he is having to do too much and he might get worn down by the time the playoffs begin.

Ya no RJ is a better fit than Brand would be. We have no use for Brand what we need is center not another PF and offense is not our problem right now defense is. Brand could be an allstar when healthy but he hasn't been healthy for basically three years. Add in his franchise crippling contract and this is an easy no for us. If we were going to trade RJ we could get something better in return.
Oh and Blair is a far better prospect than Carney. Carney has bascially peaked as a player as far as i'm concerned.

Re: Spurs should swap RJ for Brand
As far as defense goes Brand >>>> RJ
Yes, Brand has those extra years on his contract. I don't see the spurs rebuilding through cap flexibility any time soon, till Duncan is done, so I see those years as the end of an era. This is an opportunity to buy low on a guy who should be playing at a much higher level. I can see arguments about Carney, and Blair is looking nice, but I don't see blair and Jefferson as starters as a better option than Bogans and Brand. It is a defensive and offensive improvement. If you say Bogans is currently the starting shooting guard, then I am going to say that finley, Bogans and Brand is better than Bogans Jefferson and Blair. After this trade, there will still be room to make a trade to bolster other positions, such as something with the Magic for Anthony Johnson, Barnes gortat, giving up Bonner, Mason Hill or something along those lines..
How many more years should Duncan have left? How many All-star seasons left? or is he at his end now?

Well that may be true but we need someone capable of defending opposing centers not PF's. So right now RJ is the better fit.
I think the general thinking right now is that we're working on a two year plan. We don't have any players on big contracts going past 2011, including Duncan. So if he chooses to retire in two years we have a clean slate to rebuild around our young players and if he doesn't retire we cap space to try and build a championship team once again. So taking on Brands contract would pretty much destroy that plan.

Re: Spurs should swap RJ for Brand
I used to like Brand, but lost all respect for him after that stunt he pulled in his contract negotiations. He was sticking with the Clips but then bolted to Phillie. I say let him rot with the Sixers.
