lopez is a guy i'd like the sonics to pick because he plays defense. he moves his feet defensively, challenges shots, and just doesn't act like he's allergic to that side of the floor (hi chris wilcox, johan petro). his FG% is low because his shot selection is really stupid sometimes, but he definitely can create his shot in the post and will fight for position at the nba.

to me, he's what collison would be if he were 7' tall and a bit more athletic. i don't know about anyone else but i'm tired of seattle taking project centers, and lopez is about as close to refined as a center coming out of college as you're going to get in a draft.

My reasoning exactly. Also, that "Robin is the better defensive twin" thing is starting to sound like a talking point. People just repeat it even though it's not really that true. If I told you Harvey Grant was the better defender but Horace was better on offense who would you take? It's just something to talk about and not really the reality.

The worst thing about the potential selection of Lopez would be the need to defend him constantly, since most observers feel he is certain to join the long list of center busts. Andrew Bogut had a good season and is still improving, but more than half the members of this site consider him a bust. I'm getting tired just thinking about defending Lopez.

^^Why bother? His difference will be in the win column. A good center often does not look flashy and does a lot more than just what meets the eye. Also, a 7 footer is just intimidating. Mutombo is like 40 and he's still fearsome to the guards that want to drive on him.

I respectfully disagree, I think that best case scenario, you guys trade for the #2 slot (unlikely at this point) and take Beasley, or somehow (also seems impossible at this point) you guys take Mayo. Otherwise I would consider Love or Westbrook at this slot.

At this moment, even with the uncertainty of Robert Swift's injury, if I was foced to bet on who will have a better NBA career between Robert Swift & Brook Lopez, I'd put my money on Robert Swift.

then you're the reason casinos are big business.. what, if anything, has robert swift done to justify this statement? either you're robert swift's dad or you've got some crippling bias against stanford basketball. brook lopez was one of the top big men in the nation last year in college; robert swift's last good season was his senior year in high school.

i can't think of any facet of basketball where i could say robert swift is superior to brook lopez, much less the robert swift that we'll likely see post-injury. not only that, but lopez is 2.5 years younger than swift.

can you please justify your opinion, i'm real curious.

Either you've seen Swift play before the injury or you haven't. Seeing your location is Texas I take it you haven't.

I've seen Brook Lopez play against the Huskies. In person. Courtside. Under the basket. Both the twins were b!tch slapped by Jon Brockman. Not just one game either. Your assessment of Brook Lopez being one of the top big men in NCAA doesn't mean much as the Sonics play in the NBA. I seem to remember Chris Mihm was also one of the top big men in the NCAA when he was picked #7.

At the end of the day talent evaluation boils down to "because that's what I think" based on a lot of factors. I know Lopez. Mediocre NBA talent at best. Not what the Sonics need at #4.

And by the way, I didn't appreciate either the casino or dad comments.
