Meh, I had the same thought but I didn't want to try and blame this whipping on the refs. Glad others saw the same thing I did though.
This game was a parade of poor choices. It'd be nice if someone on this team felt like guarding someone on the other team.

Whoa, we lost by 42? I'm so glad I went to bed. D5, what I was referring to about the refs was stuff like Allen Iverson getting a call for tripping over Jeff Green's shoe. That's just ridiculous.
Also, I'll stop attacking Collison so much, after all he's just a backup. I just think he's a poor backup.

^^^I agree with that. I went to bed before half. I'm still feeling a bit sick. So I didn't have the fortune of seeing Luke go down. More Gelly please.
One thing I did notice that was glaringly obvious in the first half. With Wally Z no longer on the bench if Durant isn't rolling things can get out of hand quick.
There have been plenty of games this season where the Sonics were down by twelve in the 1st quarter and Wally would come in the game and shoot us back into it. Now that he's gone the bench is looking like Mother Hubbards cupboard.
Can someone please tell me how Anthony Carter was able to bother Durant so much?
Damn I get frustrated with Durant at times the kid is 6'10" and can't post up a guy who is 6'2"?
You include the length of Durants arms and he is easily over a foot longer than Carter.
The Sonics should have cleared out and let Durant post him up on the low block everytime down the court. But the kid just kept taking jumpers that were clanging off. Let's grow some mismatch identification kid.
Oh and I agree Luke simply embarrassed himself last night.

I don't blame any of this on Durant. Unfortunately as soon as the ball got to him inside the three point line he was INSTANTLY doubled. I didn't understand why Calabro kept saying it was Carter that got to him; Carter + whoever doubled him got to him. Since he was doubled he didn't have much chance to get into the post. I guess the problem was that we didn't post him up and then pass to him. That's the problem of our PGs and our coach whom I'm sure you'll agree are simply awful (I blame PJ mostly for the inadequacies of Durant at this point).

So I'm a little biased since I like both teams, but here are some observations/opinions:
BBen you couldn't be more wrong about Collison. He can't really jump (stereotypical white player) but his game is solid in all other areas. He's a smart player, knows where to be on the floor, plays hard D, moves w/o the ball, does all the non-quantifiable things. Maybe he's a 6th man but he can still be a big contributor. I'm glad he plays for the Sonics, but if he left I'd love it if he went to the Nugs.
Right now I'm wondering if Jeff Green will evolve to be a better overall player than Durant. Durant is capable of scoring and throws a few nice passes, but that's about it. Green is evolving as a scorer and he plays better D, rebounds better, and is tougher mentally and physically.
People are high on Petro's progress but the dude simply has no clue how to defend. A guy that size who is afraid to mix it up down low is a perennial 3rd-stringer.
Gelabale had a nice game but keep in mind that AI and JR Smith were guarding him a lot of the game. Still, it's good to see him play with confidence.
Wilcox shows great ability at times but I think in the long run he'd be more valuable to another team as a 6th man. In fact, both he and Collison are better 6th men than starters. That's a long-term problem for the Sonics.
So when I look at this team I see:
a) no point guard for the future
b) a SG who belongs at the 3 and is going to take a few years to really develop, and a backup SG (Gelabale) who's getting better...
c) a SF who also belongs at the 3 but could conceiveably play the 4
d) 2 PF's who should be coming off the bench
e) no realistic long-term starter at the 5
I hate to say it but this team is a long way from being competitive.

It's hard for me to argue with you about something that is essentially subjective like a player's defense or overall capabilities. I would simply be telling you "no he doesn't". But I'll try anyway.
You're criticizing Petro for the same things Collison does badly on defense. Neither move their feet very well and both resort to fouling instead of playing really solid D. This is the crux of my argument: good D requires good footwork which is something that Collison does NOT have the lateral quickness or overall quickness to even have the potential to be good at. Petro has the quickness and the potential to be a good defender, he just isn't yet.

Like the play a few minutes before half when Iverson did the full court fly and got past Ridnour without breaking stride by just giving the slightest of fakes... Luke spun a 180 in the wrong direction... that was probably the play where he injured himself as I don't think he wasn't seen on the floor again after that.
