Wally and Earl to Miami?

He makes $12 million this season and $13 million next season, and he can still shoot it. If the Sonics could get him off their cap along with Earl Watson (two more years at $6.2M and $6.6M) in one fell swoop, they'd likely do it if they could get back expiring contracts and some kind of sweetener. Jason Williams, Dorell Wright and Ricky Davis for Wally and Watson is said to be in the works, by the way. And Miami could sweeten it with one or all of the three second-round picks it has in the upcoming draft (its own, Philadelphia's and Indiana's).

I really like what Wally brings to the team, but if we could do that deal Sheridan proposes, i'd be all for it.
We'd save quite some money and be a major player in free agency this summer.

Funny how this "Insider" article on ESPN is talking about a possible trade that we have been talking about on this board for weeks. I would pull the trigger on this deal in a second. Wally has value but only on a team that is in contention. Right now he is only taking away PT and shots from other players I would rather see getting them. I thought that Miami would have been more interested in this before the really dropped off the face but maybe they think they can get back into the playoff race.

Yuck, the thought of both Ricky Davis and Jason Williams in this side makes me feel ill. I guess it would only be for half a season so I would probably do it. I doubt I'd watch the team for the rest of the season though I can't stand either of those bums!

Buy 'em out, for all I care.

They're free agents at the end of the season, its not that big of a deal if they're on the team for 2 months or so.

I'd do it if they gave in the picks. 6 2nd rounders? could we convert some of those to first round picks? (or do we have 7...) Also 2 first round picks.

I would find it hard to watch the team for the next 2 months though. I like Hippie's idea buy them out don't even let them wear a Sonics uniform!

Could we swing them to anyone else in need of a good roll player for the playoffs? J.Will could be useful to someone I think

I definitely would get sickened more by seeing Ricky Davis in a Sonics jersey than J-Will.

I'd want them bought out too or simply released.
How does that work? If you release them from a team and lets say a playoff contender wants to sign them to a contract to bolster their bench don't you just have to pay a portion of what's left on their contract.
I'd do the deal but I wouldn't want to see Rciky Davis in a Sonics uni either. He sucks!

Ricky Davis gets a bum rap, but the guy has been a model citizen and stand-up teammate since his boneheadness in Cleveland. Even if he was Beelzebub's nephew, it's two months for $20 mill off the books. And Dorrell Wright on top of it? That's as close to a no-brainer as you get, folks.

Evaluate Presti's trades with great detail. I havent heard a single trade rumor going around the Sonics I haven't liked. He's basically giving up Wally's cap and Earl for 3 second rounders and cap space for next year. We could resign Kurt, or pursue other free agents. And with 3 second rounders, it gives Sam a lot of future talent to be evaluating. I'm sure he's watching next years prospects like a hawk. Evaluating this deal - Presti is taking advantage of Miami's luxury tax and making a complete steal out of it.

My hat goes to Sam if he can pull it off.

I just looked up what 2nd rounders Miami owns and the ones from Phili and Indy are for the 09 draft not 08.

Still, thats two drafts in a row we would have a lot of 2nd round picks. Presti does well with his late picks. He drafted Tony Parker and Ginobli. He also had a say in Scola I beleive, but I cant be too certain.

The trade gave the Sonics a big cap space to use this summer.

Imagine the Suns gave two 1st round pick and cash to dump Kurt Thomas to the Sonics, and now ESPN Chris Sheridan says Miami should give 1 or three of its 2nd rounder with Wright and its expiring contracts. If the Sonics want the Heat to absorb contracts, they should at least send Miami a pick as what the Suns did.
You can't compare the Suns to anything, cause they're just way to scared to pay the tax, that they even throw away a chance at the title, if it saves them some money.
BTW: The Heat won't gain anything if they just let the contracts of Davis and Williams expire, cause they still have Shaq's and Wade's(and even Haslem's) contracts and wouldn't be able to sign anyone for more then the MLE, even with all those millions coming off the books.
Wally might not be as good as he was earlier in his career, but he's still one of the most efficient scorers in this league and would be deadly playing alongside Shaq and Wade, punishing other teams for concentrating on those two, while leaving him open.
Riley also said that he wants to surround his two stars with shooters and Wally fits that description.
Though, another thing about Wally is, that he'll be really valuable starting this summer, when he hits the final year of his contract, making him really attractive for teams that want to start over and save some money.
So no, we don't know if there's anything to it and yes, you'd help us taking some contracts off our books, but it's also not that unrealistic, given that you're probably even forced to do something with the contracts of Davis and Williams, cause you can't just let them expire, if you want to give that Shaq/Wade combo another shot.
