wally Z

You get an additional 5.35mm in cap room next year and save nearly an additional 1mm this year. No picks--nothing else--it's a good financial trade for you. No one else will give you better.

Wally's deal is over after next year.

See the Sonics would rather be on the Quality not quantity side of the trade.

I'd rather package Wally and a couple other guys to bring back one good player.

Has nothing to do with players. Has to do with 5.35mm in extra cap space next year.

Well if that's the case I'm sure we could line up expirings for Wally and save 13 mil next year.

So basically we give up a productive player in Szerbiak for two non-productive players in Jones and Rose.

And for doing this the whole motivation is an additional $5.3MM in salary off the books next season.

Salary cap in 2007/2008 is $55 million

Sonics are scheduled to still have $53.7 million in committed salary next season, assuming qualifying offers to Swift and West and Wilkins doesn't opt out. The additional $5.3 million probably takes us down to down to $48.4 million for the 2008/2009 season.

Cap will probably be in the $57 million range so that would only put the Sonics $8.6 million under the salary cap. Not much more than the MLE.

So in order to get a few million over the MLE we have to give up a productive player for two stiffs.

I just don't see the motivation there for the Sonics.

Trade Offer REJECTED!

Sorry. We aren't the ignorant masses to the north. Despite our recent struggles, the fans of this great team still have the wherewithal to call a spade a spade. Our plan is cap space after 2009, we don't need and extra five million off the books. Thanks for the offer though.
