Is there even a market for Wally Szczerbiak?

I skimmed through trade checker and couldn't find a decent match.
Wally's having a good year and could help a playoff team needing outside shooting and scoring off the bench. But who's going to take his contract?

The Knicks would give you Fred Jones (expires this year) and Malik Rose (expires next season) for Wally Szczerbiak. The Sonics would save around $7 million in salaries for this season and the next one on a deal like that.

I don't think that there really is a market for Wally World, at least not right now.
All i could see being offered for him isn't worth trading him, cause we'd most likely have to take on a crappy contract or an even lesser player in return.
And as Wally will be really valuable starting this summer, when he hits the final year of his contract, i think we should just keep him and see what we can land for him this summer.
@ctorres:
Sorry, but nothing the Knicks would be willing to offer really interests us, cause those guys either have contracts we don't like or aren't nearly as usefull as Wally is for us.

I agree with Det. I can't say which team it'll be, but some team may pull a Memphis next season & the Sonics will be positioned to take advantage with W Szczerbiak's contract. In the meantime K Durant has someone with which to share the offensive load. Besides, there are no unrestricted free agents this summer worth pursuing which means no incentive for getting him off the books a year early.

I say we hang onto him. He is the only offensive threat on this team beside K.D.
Him and Durant are the only capable players of hitting 30+ points in a game, Maybe Wilcox, and we all know that game by Damien was a fluke.

RealGM says he might be on his way to Miami. What are the possibilities of getting their 1st rounder this year?

A snowball's chance in hell would be my guess.

They traded their 1st to minny, and it's protected, so either way, it's not gonna be ours.

Agreed. In 3-4 years I expect the Wolves, Blazers & Sonics will be contenders in the west.

And thinking this W Szczerbiak situation through a little more, next season as an expiring, I could see the Sonics getting a real decent player in return. Like J Smith or L Deng sign/trade kind of good... if they don't resolve their contract situations and wind up taking that fifth year rookie deal.

A market for the Channel Z? Not this year.

I think that's a little too optimistic dude, even though Deng's stock has dropped dramatically this year, no way Wally is worth him still

wallys value really is two-fold. he has value right now because he has proven that he is over his past injuries and is still a solid scorer. he will have value next year because he will be an expiring and will likely still be able to contribute. but as long as he stays healthy and maintains his positive attitude, i think his MAX value will be next season rather than this season. and once again, what is the point of having expiring contracts? either to move them for more assets, or to let them expire and spend your money on free agents. i think they will hang on to him for a while.

You're probably right about L Deng, but I'll stick with my point. Next year this time there will be some really good player with a longer, yet not horrible, contract on some disappointingly bad team that's looking to start over (ie the P Gasol situation). The Sonics will be in a great situation to get that really good player with the remains of W Szczerbiak's $13M expiring contract.
With the few core guys the Sonics already have, including their two rookies from this year's draft, the stud PG they'll get from next June's draft & the player we'll get for W Szczerbiak, the Sonics will, by 1 March next year, be well on their way to being a good basketball team.

for
Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West, Johan Petro

Sonics no wanty Eddie McCurry....
Sorry, but we're rebuilding and surely won't give away our chance at being under the cap for a guy like Curry.
BTW: Petro is playing really well as of late and looks more and more like a guy that won't be a throw in, as long as there isn't a really good upgrade coming our way.

I wouldn't trade W Szczerbiak this season unless it was a surprisingly good deal. Which won't happen because M Miller is just about the same player. Except younger, with a lower salary & apparently available for a pick or a prospect and expirings. So I'd say M Miller is the one that is more likely to be traded.
