Yes they did...

but not the Sonix.

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm announced today the acquisition of two-time WNBA champion and two-time WNBA All Star Swin Cash. Cash was acquired from the Detroit Shock in exchange for the No. 4 pick in the April 9 WNBA Draft.
Cash, a 6-1 forward, has averaged 12.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists during her six-year WNBA career, all as a starter in Detroit. The second overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft out of Connecticut behind new teammate Sue Bird, Cash averaged 11.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists during the 2007 season for the Shock. She was a member of the 2003 and 2006 WNBA champion Detroit Shock teams .

I don't know about this one.. the number 4 pick is..well the number 4 pick. It's an unkown and with Swin Cash you know almost exactly what you are going to get.

Well, at least I've heard of her, which is a rarity among WNBA players. I am familiar with very few of them... Sue Bird, Lauren Jackson, and that one who bagged Tyra Banks, what's her name -- oh yeah, Teresa Weatherspoon.

What kind of name is "Swin," anyway? It sounds weird.

All right, I e-mailed a friend of mine, one of the seven or eight WNBA fans on the planet, and received this analysis:

Well, she's certainly good, and she and Sue Bird will make a good pair (because they're so familiar with playing on the same team). But she has had a serious attitude problem with regard to Bill Laimbeer, has been somewhat injury prone, and is not young. I don't think it was worth a number 4 draft pick, especially because this year's draft class is very deep. But opinions vary on this. (At least, webboard opinions.)

(Also, it's bad for parity in the league--giving the Shock a #4 draft pick really sucks for the rest of the teams. But that's not what you were asking.)

Meh.

I knew that would get people's attention! You can Google it... the rumor is definitely out there. I've also got a good friend in the, shall we say, "alternative community" who says it's widely believed to be true... although maybe that's wishful thinking by them! Yes, this is the same friend who is referred to above, who follows the WNBA. (I know, how very stereotypical.)
