Trade Deadline Thread

I know we've got this wonderful Trade Thread, but i thouhgt we might need an extra thread to talk about everythint that's going on during those next 24 hours or so.

Here are some rumors.

Coach P.J. Carlesimo is committed to shaking up the rotation and perhaps reconfiguring the starting lineup, but what will happen may hinge on if the Sonics make a trade before Thursday's deadline.

"[We will see] if anything happens in the next couple of days, and then we go forward from there," Carlesimo said.

While fielding calls from several teams, the Sonics are reportedly shopping disgruntled guard Delonte West, center Johan Petro, swingman Damien Wilkins and Mickael Gelabale. It's also believed veterans Kurt Thomas and Earl Watson are also drawing interest.

Carlesimo plans to use the remaining 30 games to continue evaluating, especially seldom-used center Robert Swift, a restricted free agent this summer recovering from right knee surgery. To carve out time for Swift, who played his seventh game this season in Tuesday's 108-101 win over Memphis, Thomas and Petro may be expendable.

KURT ON BLOCK: Former Knick Kurt Thomas could be the next big man on the move in the Western Conference. Thomas, who is in his final year of his contract with Seattle, has drawn interest from several teams including Orlando, San Antonio, Cleveland and Houston.

The Magic seems to have the inside track because it has the expiring contracts that the Sonics covet.

Isiah Thomas says making trades to get under cap 'not our goal'
TRADE TALK: The Sonics are fielding plenty of calls about a handful of their players, but the team obviously wants either expiring contracts, prospects or draft picks in return. Seattle has six picks -- two first-rounders and four second-rounders -- in the 2008 draft but would be open to acquiring more picks to help facilitate more deals.

First-round picks would be difficult to acquire -- the Sonics got two from the Suns in the Kurt Thomas deal -- especially with the depth of the upcoming draft. The Sonics have five first-rounders over the next three years.

Thomas, who may have played his final Sonics home game, was shaking hands and saying goodbyes following Tuesday's game in case he is moved.

If you here/read about anything else just post it here and, most importantly, let's just talk about possible or even impossible trades.

BOS will take thomas. You can have scals, pollard and a 2nd rounder next years draft.

Nope, we can get a better deal then that.

Yeah, the poll won't let me vote for multiple players.

I think that Thomas is probably the most valuable commodity right now, but it is hard to put together decent offers. Yeah, that Boston offer is insufficient.

Huh....you really think that a crappy contract, Pollard and a future 2nd for Thomas would get any other reaction the a huge laugh by Sam Presti?

The worst case with Thomas would be us cutting him after we couldn't trade him at the deadline.

I really wouldn't mind getting rid of all of these players except Johan since he has improved quite a bit with the guidance of KT and we wouldn;t get enough for him. Even though i hate luke's game we should especially shop Watson since he has been playing his best basketball ever lately and i would think we can get more for him now than we would later on.

I also wanted to vote for multiple people. I see Wilkins as a piece to go along with KT. I don't think Presti is going to let any team have just KT without addressing some of the other logjams.

That's a great point sell now while the stock is high, it makes sense. Luke's stock is at an all time low right now, so build his stock up in the last half of the season and move him as well or hold him.

KT will be gone by all reports. I'd love to unload Wally before he expires as well but I can't see it happening. We're in a lot of reports over the past few days, by the sounds of things we may be a big player come tomorrows deadline.

I read a small snipit yesterday (sorry can't remember were) it said that Seattle is open to dealing all players apart from Durant, Green and Collison. It maybe just speculation but intersting anyway.

Realistic possibilities:

1. Thomas to Magic for expiring crap & 2nd round pick.

2. Z, Rid, Wilkins to Knicks for Marbury & 2nd round pick.

3. Watson to Cavs for Eric Snow & 2nd round pick (could possibly even be a late 1st rounder after his recent level of play).

Dare to dream.
Of course, it's just as likely that nothing happens at the deadline and Thomas is released on Friday to go sign with the Mavs.

Dick, you realize how late in the draft that Orlando 2nd round pick will be? Do we really need a 5th 2nd round pick this season and one that will more than likely be one of the latest in the draft we have? I wouldn't deal Thomas to Orlando for anything less than their late first round pick. We'd be better off just keeping Thomas and letting his contract expire than adding another late 2nd round pick, IMO.

Dare to dream? I don't think you dream big enough DT. I really don't think the Sonics need any more 2nd round pick this season. If all they get back is similar length contracts, worse players (if that is possible) and 2nd round picks, then I tell the other teams to pack sand and let Thomas and West's contracts expire. Let Wilkins opt out and wait until the offseason to make any deals.

But that's just me and I don't want to be taking back other teams garbage just to get more 2nd round picks. Let me do say I realize we get one year less of salary in the Cleveland deal, however Snow is so bad I'd actually rather keep Watson if we'd still be stuck with Snow for two more years. And Starbury's deal isn't expiring this season is it? So we get stuck with Starbury for another season and only get rid of Luke's deal? I'd rather keep Channel Z around, at least he is a solid teammate for the young players to learn from. Ridnour can be dumped into a deal later once his BYC status ends, when needed.

You gotta dream bigger baby!

Send Barry to Phoenix or Cleveland. He is injuryed but should not be out long.

You're right. I never dreamed they'd get a 1st rounder for Thomas.

Is it viable to do that and is there a time limit?
