If we somehow end up with Beasley at #1, and Phoenix tumbles a little, so we can get Westbrook at #14, I think we would have the talent to at least be compeitive in 1-2 years.

We also need to make smart FA purchases, as well as get a great coach such as Carlisle.

How good is Beasley defense?

I perfer to get Rose if gone Jordan or Lopez ... Weaver with the Phoenix pick

defense .... defense.... defense ..... quickness with size

My guess is two years minimum until we can fight for a playoff seed. Probably three or four.

With good drafting, smart FA signings, I could see us making the playoffs in about 3-4 years.

If we retain the right guys, and continue with good overall decision making, we could be competing in the western conference with teams like Portland and the Lakers in 4-5 years.

Not all that great.

I think everyone is OK with Rose and i would take him at #1, if we'd luck out in the lottery.
Though, i'm not all that much interested in Jordan or Lopez, at least not with our own pick, as guys like Rose, Bayless, Mayo and Gordon make way more sense for us at that spot.

BTW: I think we're just at the start of our rebuilding effort and i can't see us competing for a playoffspot before the 09-10 season.

I'm surprised at how many teams are in contender mode right now in the west. I think the answer to this question rests a lot on the shoulders of the other teams in our conference. If the records continue to be ridiculously good for the next 3-4 years (something I wouldn't doubt too much although I've never seen 9 or 10 teams in the same conference with records like these) we don't make it in until they make a decline no matter how good our young talent is.

But if teams like Phoenix, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas take a turn for the worse we could make it in within that time. I just don't see it happening before 3-4 years since those teams have superstars in their prime and we won't have any even approaching theirs. My best guess is something like 5 years until we have a legit chance at even an 8th seed. Remember how long it took Dallas?

I'm gonna be optimistic and say we're back in the playoffs by 2010/2011

I don't think the Sonics make the playoffs next season but I do think they make the playoffs in two years from now.

The Suns and the Spurs will be old, the Mavs will no longer have Jason Kidd.

Utah will be really good and Portland Houston and possibly GS will be lumped in the middle.

By then Durant will be the man and the Sonics should have plenty of cap space to go after who ever they want.
