I feel that this would be a very logical and obvious pick. Hopefully it will happen.

Man, can we get the "quick reply" back here? Anyway, I read that on hoophype a couple days back. I love Westbrook, but he's a bit of a gamble if you're looking for a pure point guard. I guess you could say that about Bayless, too. Much of the intrigue is connected to Westbrook's workouts, and he strikes me as a guy who will look really good in the environment.

I get more and more nervous with this pick every day... it's a tough call!

Heh - looks like other people are joining me on the Westbrook to Seattle train...

I think it is a good fit - Presti just needs to show he has some balls to select him as high as #4.

Check out my post from yesterday morning in the 2008 draft contest thread. I think Westbrook is a great fit and I give reasons why I prefer him.

I don't see Memphis selecting him at #5, but the Clippers at #7 could. So a trade down with New York at #6 could yield him and perhaps a young player in return such as Wilson Chandler or Renaldo Balkman, plus Westbrook in return for Bayless, who might be the type of player D'antonio would like, plus Damien Wilkens.

Just throwing it out there, but I'm also onboard with the Westbrook pick.

It's hard to trade down a few spots when you're in the top ten.

I wouldn't love Westbrook at #4 right away, but there are worse picks we can make.

Knicks plan on taking him at #6....not much further you can trade down ...and not much value u can get for 1 or 2 spots.

Im thinking there will be some sort of bayless for westbrook trade between us...honestly...I may rather have westbrook...but bayless may be better for the system..either way i wouldnt mind either as long as we dont give up to much for bayless

Knicks would make that trade in a heartbeat imo. Mike D'Antoni took Jerryd Bayless out to diner when he worked out here and they seem to already have a relationship. And Damien Wilkens is the son of Gerald Wilkens, one of my all-time favs!!

I don't think you guys are the ones that call the shots, as you'd try to trade up.

BTW: I think it would be something like this.

#4, Ridnour, Wilkins, Griffin(can be bouth out for cheap and won't count against the cap)

for

#6, M. Rose, Balkman, Collins

Knick fan here, I think #4 (Bayless) for #6 (Westbrook) swap makes a lot of sense.

Det's version is a bit biased in my opinion--you shouldn't expect (i) expiring contract (Rose for Ridnour aspect), plus (ii) two young prospects (Balkman and Collins), just for moving down two slots. As precedent look to 2006--Portland and Minny swapped #6 and #7 just for cash. Obviously moving up to #4 should cost more, but not that much more. (Also obviously that 2006 trade turned out to be very lopsided because B.Roy turned out to be so good--but the draft is always a crapshoot. Westbrook could turn out to be the better player longterm.)

So here would be my preferred version of the deal:
#4 and Watson (or Ridnour, your choice)
for
#6, Malik Rose (expiring), Mardy Collins, and 3m cash

Do you guys consider that^ fair? Would you do that deal?

I wouldn't mind your deal at all drj, if Ridnour would be included.
Thought, that's exactly the problem and reason why i made it a bit bigger, cause Ridnour is still a BYC contract(won't be anymore in July) and therefore the trade needs to be bigger, so it fits to rules.

Cool, I'd do it with Ridnour. Just curious--have you guys completely soured on him? I had been expecting that you would prefer to deal Watson.

Ah, I didn't remember that Ridnour was BYC.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Ridnour's BYC expires in July the deal could still be completed then (assuming Presti and Walsh trust each other enough). You guys could draft Bayless at 4 but not sign him, we could draft Westbrook at 6 but not sign him, and then the signing rights could be officially traded in July when Ridnour's BYC expires.

I would do #4 for #6 and $3M or a future pick. Unlike Det I am not unhappy with our PG's. I don't think Rose and Collins add anything to our roster and we are going to have too many players.

You want to see how much leverage you have at 4--take Bayless at 4- we'll just take Westbrook at 6--no big deal. You will get nothing from th Knicks

Westbrook is going to be a defensive stopper and solid 3rd-4th option on a team like Rajon Rondo and Tayshaun Prince. After what we have been through with Marbury and the fact that i have seen bayless play and his pg skills are actually worse than Marbury's I would actually go with Westbrook over Bayless.

I really hope the Sonics draft Bayless and Knicks get westbrook, Just take a look at Boston and even kansas in the NCAA this year, when you have a group of unselfish players that move the ball around and play smart and hard defensively you put yourself in a great position to win.

You're using NBA references to talk about a college player. And why are we talking about Kansas? Neither Bayless nor Westbrook went to Kansas. But UCLA did pass well... to Love, not to Westbrook. If we drafted a UCLA player I hope it would be Love and not Westbrook, he didn't impress me at all in the tourney or otherwise.
