"Sonics taking Lopez at #4"-Chris Brousard

Post#1 » by nwsports253 » Wed Jun 25, 2008 1:15 am

So I just go done watch espn's draft special and Chris Brousard came up and said that a source close to the Sonics told him that they are going to take Lopez at 4. I want to know where this guy is getting his info from because Presti never lets anything slip out about any deals the team might be making.

Alot of signs pointed to this. Especially with Lopez only working out for top 5 teams. so it looks Rose 1, Beasley 2, Mayo 3, Lopez 4, Love 5.

I hope we land a young PG by trade then.

This seems like it would be a HUGE mistake for you guys. Hopefully that trade for the #2 will work out, or they'll pick Mayo, OR this rumor is untrue, because IMO, Brook or Bayless would be a waste of a pick.

If we do take him at #4, I'm pretty sure we wont have a shot at trading up to get Westbrook I think he'll be gone to the Knicks at #6. That leaves us trading up to get Augustin or Chalmers and who knows where they will be pick. Ive seen Augustin going to Indy for awhile and Chalmers going anywhere from the late lottery to late 1st.

Cool. I've been in the pro Lopez camp for awhile. Since we're not drafting Westbrook, my guess is we'll be drafting Weaver in the 2nd round.

^I concur Heavy. I'd love to see Weaver drop into our hands too. I'm thinking he might be a surprise first rounder though.

I don't get why you've been so against Lopez. I understand wanting Mayo, but this is under the premise that he is gone. We have a 2/3 in Durant, and a 3/4 in Green. That means, theoretically our biggest holes are at the 1 and 5. If Presti thinks Lopez is a better 5 then Bayless or Westbrook a 1, then so be it, I think I may even agree with him.

What are the chances this is just to pressure Minny into taking Lopez?

none at all, either this means we are drafting lopez. or trying to intice another team to move up to select him at 3, but problem is nobody else wants him badly enough to move up for him. if we want him we can move down to the 7,8th slot for him. no way memphis(unless minny takes love),nyk go for lopez.

my dream is to see a 3way trade announced on draft day with miami, seattle, minnesota

where we move into 2
miami 3
and minny 4

Wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago, where everyone said we were locked into Bayless?

I would take anything you read at this point with grain of salt.

I'm back on the Bayless bandwagon. I don't know why.

Well, I know exactly who Seattle is taking. We have heard that Bayless is their guy from day one. We heard that Minnesota is taking Lopez so Mayo falls to us. We've heard that the Heat are going to trade with Seattle so we get Beasley. We heard that the Sonics are enamoured with Westbrook.

That means Seattle will select Kevin Love.

Now isn't that about as scientific as anything else you've heard about the draft?

Just so long as it's not Lopez. His upside is mediocrity.

Lopez is 6th on our draft board. I hear the only way Love ends up on the MN roster is in a trade down where we get a dynamic young starting sf. (And Love is gone)

MN will take whoever falls from Beasley-Mayo. We have been divided on this for most of the offseason and still are, but what I hear as of last night and this morning is we will go value with whoever falls to us.

Unless....we are offered a deal that blows us away. Which would mean a young starter+ a pick in the position to likely draft Love or Gallinari. I am talking a very legit young starter in order to move down.(The Villy and Ammo stuff is crap)

MN is grooming Hoiberg to take over for Mchale. The fans like him, and he is a good basketball mind. Hoiberg loves Mayo. I expect nothing to happen until we are on the clock and we will not initiate a trade down unless something is crazy offered to us.

lopez is a guy i'd like the sonics to pick because he plays defense. he moves his feet defensively, challenges shots, and just doesn't act like he's allergic to that side of the floor (hi chris wilcox, johan petro). his FG% is low because his shot selection is really stupid sometimes, but he definitely can create his shot in the post and will fight for position at the nba.

to me, he's what collison would be if he were 7' tall and a bit more athletic. i don't know about anyone else but i'm tired of seattle taking project centers, and lopez is about as close to refined as a center coming out of college as you're going to get in a draft.

Brook plays defense like a guard, he bodies up, moves his feet and raises his arms. He's so long I think he can block shots like Gasol.
