Sonics-Clippers Swap

Post#1 » by nwsports253 » Thu Jun 26, 2008 6:51 pm

The Sonics have spoken with the Los Angeles Clippers about a deal that would send the No. 4 pick to Los Angeles in return for the No. 7 pick and a future first-rounder.

Does Presti think that Bayless will slip to #7? I dont think, he'll be gone at #4 if the Clippers trade up. Maybe he wants to get Eric Gordon......... :-?

Don't believe it. Presti might do something after the picks have been taken though. I don't think he'll do anything before the draft. This could also be a backup plan in case the Miami-Sea deal falls through.

Presti, must feel that he can get a guy that he wants at #7 and also pick up a lottery pick next year from the Clippers. The Sonics have so many needs that their are about five or six guys that they could select. They may not have the 'franchise' tag associated with them but they are going to be good players.

Word on the other thread is that it's lottery protected. Hopefully the lottery protection has an expiration date; otherwise we'd never get to use the pick. No disrespect to the Clippers, but come on, they're the Clippers.

Sounds like the deal will only go on if the T-Wolves draft OJ Mayo, so the Clippers may take Erik Gordon. With the #7, Ford expects the Sonics to go with Lopez or Bayless, more likely Lopez.

nbadraft.net seems to think we'll draft Lopez. Apparently, the Clippers are moving up to draft Russell Westbrook. (Did they need to? They only needed to move up if they were convinced the Knicks would take him, I think.) I think Memphis will still take Love. I'm not sure about the Knicks. But that means that Bayless could very well fall to #7. Lopez will probably still be available ...

The 2008 NBA draft is still a couple hours away, but the wheeling and dealing is already in high gear.

Sources close to NBADraft.net say the Seattle SuperSonics and Los Angeles Clippers will be swapping spots in the lottery.

Seattle, who has its eye on Stanford center Brook Lopez, will move down to No. 7 while the Clips, desperate for backcourt help, will likely select Russell Westbrook at No. 4.

The Sonics will pick up L.A.'s 2009 first-round pick (protected) in exchange for the three-spot drop.

The rest of the deal is still being hammered out, but look for an official announcement during tonight's draft.

Stay tuned to NBADraft.net for further updates as this story develops.

Good news. Realgm is reporting that if Mayo isn't drafted by Minnesota, the deal is off.

Here's to hoping that McHale goes "mini me" in the draft. OJ Mayo!

Jerryd Bayless would be fine. As would Russell Westbrook. But Brook Lopez? Hell no!
