Will Durant stay with Sonics now?

Post#1 » by imahustla » Thu Jul 3, 2008 3:57 am

First of all, I was pulling for the city of Seattle throughout this ordeal and it's a shame that it had to inevitably end like this. The NBA just shot itself in the foot today by trading in Seattle, a large West Coast market, for podunk loserville in hicktown Oklahoma. Seriously, David Stern has become the stupidest commissioner overnight.

That said, is there any chance in hell that Kevin Durant stays with the Sonics now? Why would a marketable star like him want to waste his time in the middle of nowhere? I see Durant playing out the next three years of his rookie deal, or maybe even forcing a trade before then. I could have definitely seen him playing in Seattle, even though it's not a blockbuster market. But OKC? Are you serious?

What does it matter?

This topic would have been better off suited in the General board.

Listen, I'm a fan of KD, I'll be pulling for him. He showed he supported us fans at the last home game by cheering us on as every last person in Key Arena chanted "SAVE OUR SONICS." He will forever be held in my book as a classy guy. I could only hope he, Jeff Green, Nick Collison, and Westbrook bolt that dustbowl of a city the minute their contracts are up.

I actually hope they all leave too. What Bennet did was classless and regardless of how bad the Sonics were at times, the fans stayed classy and they loved their team. I really hope Durant bolts the team as fast as he can and shows up Bennet. I wouldn't be surprised if the only guys who come to that team are money hungry, because he won't be able to get players to trust him. Just my opinion on the situation. It will forever be a cursed franchise because it was stolen away from such a great place.

With all the Lebron rumors about him leaving his hometown (AND Top 20) market of Cleveland, there is exactly 0% chance KD stays in Oklahoma. I mean he did call Bennett a fat F*@# after the initial NBA relocation vote so do you think he really feels ANY loyalty/sees any financial gain by staying in OKC!? Not a chance. I wonder who they will be getting in the S&T?

On KJR someone called in saying KD had a reaction about the move..video of him. He said that he really feels like Seattle is his 2nd home and he thanks all the fans for making him feel that way.

And yes, he did call Bennett a Fat F%$#.

i think not being able to draft Rose or Beasley was a good thing after all, looks like there's not much on the team worth staying in OKC for..although I will miss Presti, best GM we ever had.

I understand the bitterness that the fans of Seattle have but small market teams have had success keeping big name players on their teams. Chris Webber staying in Sacramento, Pau Gasol resigning with the Grizzlies, and the best example of all: Tim Duncan staying in San Antonio!

That would be awesome if all the players agreed they would bolt. I doubt it, but it would be cool.

^It was in a previous thread, written by a Seattle news reporter. KD just happened to be in NYC during the Board of Governors vot on the move. They asked KD what he thought about the decision and he responded "off the record" with Fat F$*#.

As upset and disturbed as I am about the team being stolen (and we in Charlotte may be next), I find it hard to believe that Durant said that and that it wasn't yellow journalism, trying to rally the fan base by making up an anecdote. That being said, I don't think the players can trust Bennett this ordeal.

I already love Durant, and now I respect him even more if that's true.

It's going to be very interesting to see which players actually want to play for this team now. Kevin on the other hand may want to stay, but it's going to depend on his game, so if his production continues to improve I expect him to seek a bigger market.

Link to the thread that talks about KD calling Clay a Fat MotherF'er...has the audio feed of an interview with the sports writer who talked with KD the day of the BOG vote.

He will stay for a little while but he will dip once his rookie contract is done, just like how Green, R.W and Sene will once theirs is done. Who wants to waste the prime of their life in OKC?? at least Memphis has some soul food, OKC has nothing to please young players...

Imagine how awesome it would be if Seattle got another expansion team and once Durant's contract expired he came back to Seattle.

It would be nice if all the players in the nba refused to suit up against the Sonics next season in protest of the move to OKC.

That would not heal the wound. It is more enjoyable to see a young GP develop into the best PG of his time. Durant for all I care is going to be a random superstar in the NBA and highly doubt he will resign with Seattle, if Seattle had an expansion team (losing team). I hope he goes to Dallas.

WTF does the city of Seattle want with 75million? You can't do ****. Didn't the light rail cost over 3 billion dollars? Our mayor and all the people in office has to go.
