Re: Suggs reportedly had a bad workout with the Raptors
The question now becomes - was he playing 4D chess and chose to workout and look bad on purpose? An argument can be made that his odds of being drafted by us would've been higher if he had no workout at all.

Yea but these interviews/ WO are a snapshot. Nowadays there is hours of film on Suggs and Barnes in all kinds of basketball environments. Plus they talk with other coaches to get a feel for players. Everyone can have a bad day shooting see bubble PS vs pre bubble.

He could have just refused the workout if he had no intention on playing for us. Going to a workout with the intention on tanking it looks bad on him and that could drive down his draft stock...so that kind of strategy would work against him in the big picture
He probably had a bad day.
When watching video of his games that show all his shots...not just the makes...there were some 3 point attempts that would make Giannis look like Larry Bird.

Jake fisher also reported this before the draft; KOC said the same.

Re: Suggs reportedly had a bad workout with the Raptors
We have seen how short sighted this management team has been since Kawhi left so it's not a surprise that a singular bad workout played a part in them passing on a much better prospect. It's incredible how you can ignore the obvious game tape because you get enamored by some length and athleticism.

Raps have been following Barnes since he was 16, similarly with other prospects, so 1 "bad" or good workout is not going to suddenly change their mind on a prospect.

could be so many other things than just the on court stuff; off court interview; measurements etc.
improvements or lack there of from then to now.
and who is to say they based decision only on the workout; maybe had a contributing factor but isnt the the only factor.

Re: Suggs reportedly had a bad workout with the Raptors
nah, they just saw the basic athleticism and basic NBA length.
Then they thought okay let's check that 3-point shot then.........nothing there either.
A respectful PASS

Probably just confirmed what they knew already. They worked him out just to see if he fixed some of the kinks he had was fixed, but it was not.
Evident that they knew this already by trying to get Mobley.

Ah, the troll is back.
Bud, they've been following Barnes since he was 16/17. Likely same with Suggs. They are not basing this decision on a "singular bad workout".

It could also be said that those enamored with Suggs (myself included) are shortsighted since they see him being better right away. But down the road we don’t have patience to watch a guy like Barnes develop and go through ups and downs.
Suggs has a higher floor for sure, but I don’t see how it could be debated that Barnes doesn’t have a much higher ceiling.
Masai took a chance on a guy that could bust, but could also turn out to be pretty special over a guy who’s guaranteed to be decent and turn out to just be good. I don’t see Suggs becoming a top 15ish player. I do with Barnes if he reaches his potential. That’s the opposite of shortsighted.

Considering the reports that ORL, TOR and OKC has Barnes above Suggs does speak volumes.

I don’t think they made the decision to not draft Suggs based on 1 workout. They’ve been following these guys since high school.

In his reddit AMA, the guy also said his belief was that OKC was trying to move up to 4 to take Barnes. In hindsight I'm inclined to put some stock in that
I think that actual NBA people might not have had Suggs as the consensus 4 guy to the level the media did - might also explain why the 'top 4' talk seemed to gradually turn into a top 3 focus in the weeks before the draft as talks and leaks kept circulating.
