I wanna see NY next move, because I don't see how Fournier + picks gets you a star, they no longer have the young upside player.

Clearly their objective was to get a star guard + 3+D player with all their assets

But they used their assets on the star for the 3+D player. Zach lowe mentioned teams know the value of picks now and are scoffing at multiple low first. OKC is having this issue and have been deferring picks in trades recently.

I wonder if they don’t see this as a two step process, where they get a mid ‘star’ with picks like DMurray and then flip him and additional for a bigger star in force out mode in the off-season.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Winner: CAA Conspiracy theorists
Leon Rose left his job as the president of power agency CAA to become the Knicks president. Since then he hired CAA-represented Thibodeau and drew a CAA player, Jalen Brunson, as a free agent. Now he has to reach a new deal with Anunoby this season and… you guessed it, he is a CAA client.

Ha i just read a post on the knicks board, just from a regular poster, about how their management is supposed to have an advantage in these kinds of deals because they have the connections to CAA. That said I'm not sure how getting Anunoby half a year early by giving up assets (though barrett is arguably on the other side of the balance sheet) is that much of a positive for them. It is a strange form of collusion/cooperation that's for sure.

It ensures that both sides know the end goal (to get to NY) and collusion doesn't get discovered, becuase they both keep their mouths shut? Then again, why do you have to be family to do that and have that bond? I mean... maybe there isn't any open collusion, maybe just changing to CAA signals a desire to be in NY? As it obviously did with OG.

I don't know. It doesn't seem very related in a way that CAA is selling the NY Knicks to clients. I think being in New York and MSG is the selling point.

There's absolutely nothing stopping CAA from offering to reduce the amount of money they get paid to represent OG if he plays in NY. Typical rate for an agent is 4% (the maximum an agent can make in the NBA), if OG gets near the max on his next contract (say averaging $40M/year) that's $7M in agent fees over the course of a 5 year deal, he's save over $3M if they offered to cut the fees in half, they could even offer to represent him for a lower flat rate or take their percentage off endorsement deals, however it's done, OG is saving millions.

Then realize the Knicks have the ability to pay Leon Rose whatever they want in compensation as executive pay has no bearing on the salary cap. He could easily have an incentive in his contract that pays him more if he signs valuable players, he might just get a pay bump based on team performance, or he could make more money on his next contract as a "thank you".

The final piece is that Leon Rose's son is OG's agent. There is nothing stopping Leon from gifting his son money, families do this all the time, no way to prove it's due to him taking less money to represent OG. There is no direct paper trail from MSG to OG in terms of cash, there's nothing illegal here, but indirectly OG is getting additional millions on his contract.

I'm not saying this is happening, but it could happen and there would be no fear of getting hit for cap circumvention.
